Guilty Pleasures

So, I take it everyone has them, those movies everybody talks bad about, yet you stick to like glue.

Mine:
WATERWORLD- I WORSHIP this bombastic Hollywood megaproduction orgy that fizzled completelly at the box offices; something about an apocalyptic MadMax future with flooded continents just rocks my boat; literally and figurativelly.

FINAL FANTASY: THE SPIRITS WITHIN- I cover my eyes anytime those hideous plastic people try to act human, but if you listen carefully to the story, you can feel some of the genious that gave us some of the greatest RPGs of all times pulsating under the hood; it´s not bad, it´s only … different. Like Flog said elsewhere, if only they had stuck with the chocobos…

MY FAIR LADY- I hide my head everytime I see Jeremy Brett singing (I prefer to remember him only as the greatest Sherlock Holmes of all times), but whenever there´s no one around to trash on my rugged manhood, I like to watch a really really clever play done right (even if the words Nancy Reagan are the easiest way to break the spell).

TREMORS- Yes, it´s brainless fun and a bit of a splatter movie, right down to the awfully replicated blood, but it´s FUN! I have almost as much fun watching Michael Gross´depiction of a fanatic survivalist as I have watching any LOTR.
Sorry, but it´s true.

Well, I showed mine; now show me yours.

HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE - c’mon, when Skeletor gets reborn at the end and walks about tarted up in that gold outfit with the massive headdress… well, you have to admit it’s a damn classic!

The EVIL DEAD films and THE ARMY OF DARKNESS - possibly the greatest of all the cheesy horror films ever made!

THE NEVERENDING STORY I - it’s just awesome.

A.I. - I absolutely loved this one. I think it is one of the greatest, most sensitive and beautifully tragic films ever made.

Im going to have to agree with you on that one. This movie is ultimate cheese and stupidity, but I still enjoy it.

Hehehehe yeah I watched it AGAIN last night, it’s just such a great movie!

That part when Skeletor comes parading down the street on his evil float like it’s some kind of bizarre homecoming - a piece of cinematic mastery, I tell ya! It’s one of the greats!

And the best part of the whole film is that He-Man says a total of about 10 lines in the entire thing! Sheer genius!

the Labrynth is one of my altime favorites that no one I have met have seem to have seen. Absolutly the coolest movie ever. :buttrock:

Oooh - this is a good one!

I think I have about 100 though…

The Frightners - it flopped at the Box Office, but I really really enjoyed this film (and stil do!)

Happy Gilmore - I know it’s lame to most people, but this film made me laugh so much it hurt when I first saw it.

Friday - Okay, not really a ‘guilty’ pleasure, since it’s a classic. But a lot of people I know don’t like it. They are of course wrong. So there.

Friday the 13th - parts 1,2,4,6,7,10 - Ooooooh yes!

eliseu gouveia - I love Tremors! Big beasts, goo and explosives. Pure class

I’d go with Leigh on Neverending Story too. That film and Labyrinth make me come over with more nostalgic glee than is healthy.

MORTAL COMBAT- (The first one with Christopher Lambert)- Yes, yes. Don´t kill me just yet. When the hero is fighting that big baddie at the climatic fight and those supreme entities materialise:
“- The fate of the earth will be decided through MORTAL COMBAT!” .

[fanboy]
That is SOO COOL!
And the ending? Sheer coolness!
[/fanboy]

Of course they just HAD to go in and make that HIDEOUS sequel. sigh…

Oooohhh, LABYRINTH ! Jim Henson at his finest! Jennifer Connelly solving Alice in Wonderland puzzles, David Bowie in great mythical shape and everybody always mispelling Hogster´s name…c´mon, the recipe for pure success!
And I dare anyone to resist the charm of Ambrosius, the bravest steed EVER!

Billy Madison- I love it!

Oh yeah, I forgot about Labyrinth - David Bowie in those naff tights!! “Nothing??! Nothing tralalala!!!”
Yet another great classic.

Here is a funny thread you Labyrinth fans might enjoy

My friend (called Corky here) and I are famous for our spontaneous renditions of that Dance Magic song!!

Yeah, Office Space is just plain awesome.

Shop Smart…Shop S-Mart!

Day of the Dead is my favorite of the Romero zombie trilogy. But everyone else keeps saying it’s the worst of the three. This one has better story, character development, special effects, acting, directing, cinematography…etc. It is also the creepiest of the three.

The Breakfast Club. I think only the kids that grew up in the 80’s could understand the kind of magical spell this film has on the people that grew up in that era.
