the vimeo description says the modeling was done in modo, animation in messiah, and rendering in SI…
may be an odd question, but how in the world did you end up with a workflow that required all three of those applications? XSI is more than capable of handling all three, and out of modeling animation and rendering, I would say that rendering is the weakest of the three areas in XSI. I’ve heard of people doing modeling and animation in XSI and then rendering in Maya or Max, but never the other way around heheh.
Either way, nice work… at the end of the day that’s all that matters right?
heheheh
well then, i have been modeling in Lightwave for over a decade now, and i’m very fast there, when modo came out it was the upgrade allot of people wanted to LW so naturally the switch was simple. XSI modeling tools are great, but when you have a really good and fast workflow, why break it for the sake of using one program. I do model in XSI when time is not a factor.
As for animation, well i animate in both XSI and messiah, i use messiah more when ever i have character animation for speed purposes, messiah allowed me to have all 3 characters animate and playback in realtime, in fact the characters motion was done in a day, where i couldn’t have that speed in xsi (my PC configuration isn’t that great). At the end of the day the integration is really smooth between all three apps, which all adds up to have a really fast workflow.
As for rendering in XSI, i don’t think rendering is a weak point, i have been using it for years, and MR is really great, it does have it’s quirks, but once you setup a workflow and have a cheat list ready, it doesn’t make sense to learn a new render engine from scratch, at the end speed of completion with the best quality is the only important factor for the client here.
Cheers
