'Grey Falcon' Surveillance vehicle

#11

Thanks! those holes are side thrusters. These doors open when the ship wants to land. They work a bit like the tail rotor of a helicopter, so the ship can manoeuvre in the Y axis during landing.

Cool animations man, This looks great! i like the rig haha

Awesome man! This looks like a bad ass stealth V-22.

I’m not sure if its a too late for major tweaks, but the rotors look too far back.

I’m guessing they should be roughly in the middle so the thing could hover ok? I’m most definitely not an aeronautical engineer though…

Also just for the sake of looks, you could maybe add longer wings, and make the engines bigger.

Hey AJ, I see what you mean about the position of the main engines and the length of the wings. The V-22 has long wings otherwise the rotors will collide with each other and it produce more lift because it’s a helicopter/airplane. My engines are jet engines and the will produce much more power than these V-22 rotors engines. Maybe I will give my wings a bit more length because the tail is right in front of the jet nozzle, but not to much because I like the fast look of the ship.

So thanks for the heads up

Here is what I came up with for the positioning of the engine. You are right that the are off center but the ship has counter engines in the front and in the tail for dealing with this problem. These engines will help stabilize the ship during takeoff/landing/ hovering. Here is a small explanation video about my idea of the engine layout:

The design looks cool, looking forward to see it being detailed
What kind of paint scheme are you thinking of?

Cheers
Andre

#16

Thanks Andre!

I’m not sure what kind of paint scheme it will get but I made some rough paint scheme ideas. I really like the look of a non military vehicle for this, so I made some ideas for a vehicle for Customs or Border patrol. But I like some of the camo paints aswell… Lucky for me i don’t have to choose right now:-) First the modeling must be done, but at the same time it’s fun to make some paint scheme ideas

What do you guy’s think about these rough sketches?

(that shark mouth was just for fun:-) )

#17

Well… I like the the 2nd camo and the customs.

But my favorite is without a doubt the border patrol.

#18

So many great choices…2nd row to the right, warhawk. How did you go about the texture?

#19

Thanks Guys! My favorite paint scheme has to be the border patrol as well. So i decided to paint some more detail in Photoshop, I think it looks pretty good so far. What do you think?

Still…i have a lot of modeling to be done before i can even think about texturing this vehicle.

It’s going to be a Surveillance vehicle called the ‘Grey Falcon’ of the RNBP ( Royal Netherlands Border Patrol)… in the year 2128…i guess

#20

Great choice of theme and color scheme Jonathan!

The mockup texture are already looking great.

#21

Cool I actually like all the camo variations you posted! Yeah those won’t make much sense for border patrol but maybe once everything is done you have room for a military version
What would be cool and what I haven;t seen too often yet is the dark grey/blue russian camo pattern, I wonder how that one looks here. Like this one:

Looking forward to see the progress!

Cheers
Andre

@ Utopia780: Thanks! I like the develop a little story around this bird, so i came up with this border patrol

@ Andre: Thanks man! Yeah that pattern looks awesome! maybe I will do that just for fun

Progress is slow because I have little time to work on this bird, but yesterday I finished the nose gear box:

#23

ooooooooooooooooooh!! That’s looking really good! :bounce:

#24

Thanks Utopia780!

Currently working on the rear gear. It’s a giant puzzle to fit everything in the fuselage when retracted  updates soon

#25

Here is an update regarding the rear gear. It’s almost final accept for some parts which are still rough blocking. For now the retraction is going good and it almost fits within the gear storage:-)

#26

Very nice progress and clean mesh. I like the triangle carvings on the foot area!

Cheers
Andre

#27

Wonderful work Jonathan!
Beautiful model and mesh.

#28

Here is a small update of the rear landing gear. I like to do lots of detail, so that kept me busy the last few days

Really nice work there! You seems to love to model small details as I do with my Apache
Are you going to do animations on it?
What software do you use?

#30

Thanks Iceman! i love small details:) i use maya for modeling and zbrush for experimenting for details like panel work for example, works great! Much faster than modeling in maya and then find out the panel work isn’t what you are looking for

That being said, it has been a while since i posted an update on the grey falcon. Now it is marked; Grey Falcon mark II. I changed a lot especially the tail section and panel work, new main engine design and some more detail along the fuselage of the bird.

comments & critics are more than welcome!

The engines are working differently than last time, now the are more like the F-35
