'Grey Falcon' Surveillance vehicle

Hi Guys!

  It has been a while that i modeled something cool so i decided to design and model some kind of spacecraft a bit like Elysium's Raven (which is very cool :-) The main reference i get from helicopters of today (V-22 Osprey etc.)  and the art of District 9 and Elysium. I like their art style very much. I want to create a believable spacecraft that could fly now a days or in the near future , not some kind of futuristic spaceship that flies in year 4000 or something like that ;-) 
  
  So here is what i have sofar. A lot of the model is still in blocking phase like the gear etc.
  
  Please give me some good helpful critics :)

Ow and i want to give it a cool name…any suggestions?

I test rigged the rear gear to test the retraction, and how much space it will take inside the fuselage.

oh man! I don’t remember any cool name for your spacecraft but I think it is very cool.

The landing gear is amazing. I have a suggestion though…

When I saw the animation I thought the landing gear itself would act as a door (lid? I don’t know the exact name…). I thinks it would look better if instead of having those landing gear doors the landing gear itself would fill the hole.

Do you understand what I mean? Sometimes it’s hard for me to express my ideas in english…

Thanks man!! Haha don’t worry I know exactly what you mean about the door lid! I considered it for a while but then I decided to have a body surface. When the gear act as a door lid it brings some certain difficulties with it to the smoothness of the body.

I really like it and I think you are doing good job recreating the style of district 9 and elysium, but at the same time putting something your own into it.

It’s looking very good and the topology is very clean.

What are those two holes with a lid for?

Thanks! those holes are side thrusters. These doors open when the ship wants to land. They work a bit like the tail rotor of a helicopter, so the ship can manoeuvre in the Y axis during landing.

Awesome man! This looks like a bad ass stealth V-22.

I’m not sure if its a too late for major tweaks, but the rotors look too far back.

I’m guessing they should be roughly in the middle so the thing could hover ok? I’m most definitely not an aeronautical engineer though…

Also just for the sake of looks, you could maybe add longer wings, and make the engines bigger.

Hey AJ, I see what you mean about the position of the main engines and the length of the wings. The V-22 has long wings otherwise the rotors will collide with each other and it produce more lift because it’s a helicopter/airplane. My engines are jet engines and the will produce much more power than these V-22 rotors engines. Maybe I will give my wings a bit more length because the tail is right in front of the jet nozzle, but not to much because I like the fast look of the ship.

Here is what I came up with for the positioning of the engine. You are right that the are off center but the ship has counter engines in the front and in the tail for dealing with this problem. These engines will help stabilize the ship during takeoff/landing/ hovering. Here is a small explanation video about my idea of the engine layout:

I’m not sure what kind of paint scheme it will get but I made some rough paint scheme ideas. I really like the look of a non military vehicle for this, so I made some ideas for a vehicle for Customs or Border patrol. But I like some of the camo paints aswell… Lucky for me i don’t have to choose right now:-) First the modeling must be done, but at the same time it’s fun to make some paint scheme ideas

What do you guy’s think about these rough sketches?

Well… I like the the 2nd camo and the customs.

But my favorite is without a doubt the border patrol.

Thanks Guys! My favorite paint scheme has to be the border patrol as well. So i decided to paint some more detail in Photoshop, I think it looks pretty good so far. What do you think?

Still…i have a lot of modeling to be done before i can even think about texturing this vehicle.

It’s going to be a Surveillance vehicle called the ‘Grey Falcon’ of the RNBP ( Royal Netherlands Border Patrol)… in the year 2128…i guess :wink:
