Greetings from Professor Moriarty.

Hi everyone. My name is Scott Gammans, but my online moniker is “Professor Moriarty”. I’m a regular poster over at lwg3d.org, scifi-meshes.com and trekbbs.com, but up until today I’ve only been a lurker here at cgsociety. Today I decided to become a dues-paying member.

I’m an amateur hobbyist when it comes to CGI, and yeah, I’m one of those Star Trek geeks... but please don't hold that against me! My current project is a “reimagining” of the special effects for the classic Trek episode “The Doomsday Machine”, and you can see what I’ve been able to accomplish so far [here](http://www.scottgammans.net/doomsdaymachine).

The software I’m using for this project is LightWave 9 for the CGI, POV-Ray for some of the texture image maps on my models, and the Adobe Video Bundle (AE 7, PP 2, etc.) for the post-production work. You’ll very likely see me haunting the After Effects and Premiere Pro forums quite a bit in the months ahead as I get into the more complicated scenes in “The Doomsday Machine”.

This is a great website and I look forward to learning a lot and (hopefully) contributing something in return. See you around the cgsociety forums!

Great work there Scott,

Welcome to cgsociety.

I followed the links to your site, very impressive stuff and quite an intersting idea you have. can i ask? has this sort of thing been done before?

best of luck with your Star Treking

Thanks GingerDave. An online friend of mine did “Balance of Terror” a couple of years ago, and Daren Dochterman (who worked on Star Trek:Voyager and Star Trek:Enterprise) did a “Doomsday Machine” proof of concept in 2003 that you can find on YouTube (look for “Star Trek Enhanced”). Digital Stream also did a couple of demos back in the 90’s–you may have seen bootleg copies floating around the 'net. But to my knowledge no one has ever completely, 100% replaced the F/X in “Doomsday Machine”, so I’m angling to be the first.

AH! Man after my own heart. I attempted this project several years ago with Balance of Terror. Your work is much better [go figure]. But then again I didn’t know squat about what I was doing.

Have you ever seen this footage? It’s from the mid 90’s

Great work! Hope to see more soon.

Thanks
