Grand Space Opera Voting open!

#61

DonHuan: I pasted my printed image in a rigid base, so if it falls down the wall it won’t brake!!!.. You should do the same, sorry about your image.

#62

Good luck to everybody…I cant stop feeling guilty for not finishing this challenge…

#63

Great to see all the work together, finally.

I don’t envy people voting, there are some tough choices. Granted, you can vote for as many images as you’d like!

Good luck everyone!

#64

Even if you did not finish I will still use your work in sketch / unfinished form if its presented well enough for the video. Also you get your own section just for competing. If you finish your entry I will include the “late finale” along with your W.I.P. to your bio page.

#65

The one thing I will not do is use anyones anything unless specifically told I can do so by that person here on the site in the official thread. I will do my best to contact each contestant through whatever means I have available to include them and even if they are not reachable I will include their name in the credit list without their images as honorable mention.

#66

Ok my image is not on the voting board even though I did the whole FTP thing and thought I was done

Nevermind though (too late now) and looking at all of the other entries I stood no chance. Good luck to all, I have voted for many images they are all superb!

If you reply in the GSO Music Video topic it will be in the video!

hi

this goes out to the admins…

it would be cool if after you vote, u have a link to “continue browsing” - and that link takes to you the page no. and category you were on previously.

#69

To the admins,
The image for Peakman in the 3d challenge ( on page 7 of 3d only for me) is not the correct image , you may want to replace this with the artists jpeg.

There is a lot of great picture, but I see a lot of people who didnt respect the subject of Grand Space Opera!

#75

yeah I know and I have this sinking feeling that some of the people who did will be beat by the popularity of those who did not.

#76

Yes, that was (and still is) my own personal fear. While I think a lot of the entries are great (even extrordinary at times) there are some entries that, while they are technically impressive, they do not express the theme of Grand Space Opera. (and although there is a broad range that can be defined by what that signifies, I think others went way beyond it or didn’t even use the theme in their entry)
That’s why I posted that question to everyone in the FAQs (and I’ll post it here as well):

What do you look for in the entry you decide to vote for? Is it purely on what is the best looking image (from a technical standpoint) or do you look the entry that best expresses the theme of the Challenge?

#77

The theme serves as an inspiration for the artists. The guidelines are vague on purpose so there is a large variety of images.
Foremost on my mind is the quality of the image. Conforming to the theme is secondary.

#78

Do you think your entry adequetly expresses the theme of Grand Space Opera?

In the end this is a CG challenge, thus technically and asthetically superior images deserve to win…just because an entry does meet your opinon of what constitutes ‘Space Opera’ doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to win.

-k.

#79

Images will be judged on "originality, storytelling’, how well it conveys either a sense of awe and scale or action, "technical process".

Images need to be “imaginative and loosely based on the theme”. We’re not interested in giving absolute guidelines to work with, we’re interested in seeing "original works of art" that suits your vision.

Had you read the rest of my post, you would have read this: “(and although there is a broad range that can be defined by what that signifies, I think others went way beyond it or didn’t even use the theme in their entry)”
The theme of the Challenge is given for a reason. If it’s purpose of the Challenge was only to judge a person’s skill with CG, why have the theme as a specific guideline at all? :hmm:

I am not saying that those entries that are superior in visuals or technique don’t deserve to win; I am saying I hope people will keep an open mind as to if the entry expresses the theme of the Challenge or not.
(and to answer your previous question as to “Do you think your entry adequetly expresses the theme of Grand Space Opera?”, yes I do  )
