Latest Update: Concept Sketch: City Sketches

Some sketches of different buildings. It’s just to have a basic idea on paper. I will design them further on 3D.

This sketch shows the first basic idea I had for this contest.
The scene shows a pair of soldiers getting into their spaceship. They must join their team and defend their planet from the attack of the enemy fleet, leaded by a big spaceship.

#3

One of the best sketches I’ve seen so far

#4

Same scene with minor variation.

#5

Trying a new composition. There is a new character: a commander which is talking next to the pilots. Characters are now inside a hangar.

#6

This sketch shows more detail on the commander. Also coloured to see the balance on the composition. I will try different colours later, first I want to decide the position of the characters and the perspective.

#7

Now more detail on the character standing on the ground. Now I have almost decided the composition, I will shift into 3D to test different perspectives and settle up the final composition.

#8

Well, after lots of pencil sketches, here’s the first 3D image. Just simple geometry in order to check the composition.

#9

Concept sketch for the first pilot, the one who’s standing on the floor.

#10

Pilot gloves and boots, for future reference.

#11

The sketch for the second pilot, the one who’s on the spaceship.

Some sketches of different buildings. It’s just to have a basic idea on paper. I will design them further on 3D.

I think you would do well to see some ref. on architecture from the Pueblo Indians of New Mexico. Your structures really have a “refined mud hut” feel to them which lends them a soft kind of organic presance. As far as your characters, they are very cool, which actually could be a problem. Try maybe and add some more “nouch” to your characters, some imperfections. It think it would help alot. Also try and go for a lower camera prespective, as it will enhance the sense of scale in your comp.

buena suerte.

Thanks for the crits! I’m checking the reference from Pueblo Indians… I get the idea- I’ll try to get some ideas from it…

As for the characters, you’re right… before reading your post I thought I would change something, specially on the alien one, because he looks too human… I’ll try to “anlienize” him a little bit. And the human one… I think I won’t change him by now. What I really want is to give him a bit of “heroic look”… so the image grabs fastly the attention of the viewer- However, I think that I can only achieve this with more attention on the pose and the colours… Maybe adding some props, like small weapon… well I’ll think about it.

Gracias de nuevo!!
