Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Robert Nyström

#11

First modeling wip of the Vuntarian vessle, the Whale. It has changed somewhat fron the original concept. It simply didn’t work out in modeled form.

#12

The second of the two Vuntarian vessles.

#13

You’re really pounding along there zem! Nice clean designs.

I like the concepts of the daughters, especially the costume design on the left.

#14

Thanks erilaz.
Yeah, it’s a bit of a bulk post. I wanted the daughters clothes to look really old so I borrowed some design traits from human old age, medievel and a sort of ancient egytian. The cermonial gown is of course something that comes from an old tradition with both the Mifras and the Vuntarinas, but will still be reflected in the spaceship design. Did I succeed? Which daughter belong to which ship? Do you know, or do you need a lifeline?

#15

The aquatic animal look of the ships is a great idea, will you add some others ?

#16

Thanks Chug. The ships that will be in the final comp, are The Whale, The Crawler, The Isis(It says Iris in the layout sketch, which is wrong) and the Osiris.
I have thought about adding the Stingray, but I don’t think there is enough time for me to model everything well enough. The Hammer is just ugly, and I will not use that.

I’m also thinking about changing the comp so the daughters will be in their pod in the middle, and the Vuntarian and Mifra vessles will be on either side. It might prove to be to static.

#17

I’m just making the basic shapes of the ships so I can make a mock-up of the final image. So they are really low poly. Also, if pressed for time, I can hide the low-poly ships in the ‘back’ of the image, with a fairly large texture map. That way I can create a big fleet without millions of polys.

#18

This is a different story line, liking it! Will you be modeling the other ships? I like the small, fast looking stingray and the military-like hammer head (would this be military?) which may be used to police the whole event…

Keep those creative juices flowing! Some really good concepts here

EDIT!! okay then I read your other post… no stingray or hammer  ahh well I’m sure it’ll still look cool! :stuck_out_tongue:

#19

Started to add details. I’m thinking that I can get away with making the main body’s windows and other stuff with a bumpmap.

Sorry to dissapoint you M477. If I have a lot of time over sometime I’m hoping to add the Stinger on the landing bays of the Whale.

#20

Keep up the good work. I’m a firm believer in getting away with whatever you can, with whatever technique you can, as long as it looks good!

#21

Adding details

#22

Nice improvement with your modelling … when more detaill more realistic …

Continue the good work

#23

The first girl.

#24

The two girls in the sacrafical pod. Got all the basics down now, so I going to do a dummy composition next.

#25

Tried out some colors on the aquatic ships. I wanted the look of the deep water fish, that glow in the dark.

#26

Now, that’s a cute ship! If you want to make it look more like a fish, try to add some fish scale structure to it. Perhaps a slight bump map and some specularity. Also some transparency in the fins could look good.
Keep up the good work - good luck!

#27

oh no, I was going for manly, butch and macho!
Great comment, I was going for a less serious approach, since the whole scene is serious enough. I wanted a contrast between the look and the story. The ships will be colourful and pirky(?)

I should have mentioned that this is not the finished colouring. The fins will be solar panels and I will make them golden. The scalelooking bumpmap will be coming up.

#28

I’ thinking of using this composition instead.

#29

The Whale, colour, no bump or spec to talk about.

#30

This is the dummy of what it will look like. Could use some pointers on how to make the armada look grand by posing the ships. Remember that I haven’t placed the opposing armada on the right, yet.
