Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Richard LaBrie

#321

Wow… sweet updates! That interceptor looks like one mean son-ova…
It’s cool how the wings double as landing gear on these ships…
Very nice man… very nice! Keep it coming! :applause:

#322

Here is that light map I was promising…

#323

Thanks Nekura, yeah I come from the school of form and function. I notice that alot of the ships in the contest could technically never land nor have a way for someone to get in or our so to speak. Albeit they might look crazy bad ass. I just cannot see making ships that aren’t feezable. More to come.

Rear view texturing update on the fighter class.

#326

The dual seat Ipka IX Class bomber. Discharging massive energy bombs this craft is devastating against capital ships.

hi Richard…
you are doing a huge amount of work mate…! great output btw…! and all your ships are the same style… how you’re achieving that?
very good job Richard…! very good…!
but what are you going to do with such endless amount of ships?!
do you compiting with Dimitris?
i hardly finished just second ship… and it’s not textured yet…
anyway you’re making very nice and stylish ships…! i like them a lot…
maybe it’s time to start making environment…
keep this great pace going my friend and cheers…

I cannot say what is to be done with all these ships I can say there is a reason two complete fleets are being built  Thanks for the C n C. I will only be working on ships for the remainder of this week. Ie the high gear motivation then I have to do the environment and characters. Expect to see alot of stuff. I am just not keen on cloning the same ship a bazillion times in the background it will make the picture overall lose quality. I know some people are putting so much detail into their ships at the sub-system level that they don’t have the time to build as many  hehe. Each piece will have its own draw and bonuses. I can just hope that my investment pays off!

#332

Still in rough modeling but I am exausted so I will just post up where I am at in 3 views starting with this one. This space station will be destroyed in the final art piece so most of the texturing will be designed to look really messed up by nature with fire holes, explosion damage etc…

Last post for the day… what a long day it has been too. More to come tommorow. I will be building a few more ships of varying classes and species (diversity, the spice of life). I will probrably start on this more directly when I have a few hours of shut-eye and some fresh caffine in my system tommorow. Peace out all!

#335

Man… awsome effort, I think that you put here the biggest amount of updates. Much must give a lot of time for this challenge, that is good:thumbsup: The space army looks very nice, I can’t wait to see it in action. With motion blur, some glowing engines, missels, lasers it will look amazing! Keep the progress man!

#336

Wow, this sucks on a 56K but, OhMyGod, isn’t it soooooo worth the wait. Every time I see a new picture, it broadens my SciFi horizons. If I can possible blow enough time to bring up some other pages, I’ll probably post again. Keep up the good work!!

#337

i like your concept, is good:thumbsup:

how many ship have you created,
i can’t say keep it up, you are so fast
good luck man

#338

Many Updates! Very Gooooooood! I love these ships (and Space Station)! Very cool stuff man… keep it coming! :bounce:

#339

A Worlds record for updates as well as ships…Scope and scale will not be missing…Nice Richard, keep it up,you are doing the work of 10 or so…More ships still? i think this fleet is at a hindred or so now? Perhaps get to texturing it all, than add to the fleet with time permitting?..Well you know your limits and plans, all the best Richard, work work work :wip: :wip: :wip: …it is paying off…:arteest:

Hehe thanks man, yeah I want the scene to have enough different things going on in it to really be “epic”. Lasers and missels and engines oh my! It is all coming my friend…

wow you must be seriously wanting to look at these updates on a 56k… Well thanks for the compliments, every time I sit down to model I am broadening my own horizons… little known fact. Before this contest it had been 2-3 years since I did any realy serious modeling on a regular basis… mostly its been music and graphic design. Next little known fact, I had never actually modeled a space ship before this contest. Like I had said in a previous post I am into organics. People mainly. I have studied anatomy, muscles etc… So every ship I do is technically a challenge. I am just soo happy that my designs are being so well recieved.

Thanks, umm how many… not enough yet… I will keep it up as long as life will let me…

Thanks. I am really diggin the Alien crafts. They have a darkness to them that just seems sinister… I don’t know the sort of things I don’t want in orbit of my homeworld, unless they are my fleet!

Are you saying I broke two records for CGnet in one day? Lol sweetness! In a normal job situation I would not be texture mapping. I would be conceptually creating stuff and writing music. This whole 3D contest thing was such a long shot. I never really expected to do this well. The last version of 3D Studio Max I purchased before this contest was 3.1, Along time ago. I went to re-install it in XP and it told me no! I was quite upset. I almost thought I was not going to enter it at all. Some of you guys texturing is just sooo gorgeous its almost daunting to think about. In an ideal world I would have you do all my texture maps Virtuoso.

Well thanks for all the input guys it really motivates me to keep on it and pray for the outcome. More coming in just a little bit…
