Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Narek Gevorgyan
Hi guys, this is my first time participating in any kind of challenge like this. i have not been using 3D for too long, so definitely this is a challenge, and IÂ’m definitely gonna come out of this with so much learned. it should be fun. i feeling pretty psyched about this, lets see if i can win haha : )
i donÂ’t know how far i should go with my concept art. this is a more worked out version of the first sketch. im gonna start doing the concepts for the individual pieces now, like the TV and the bathtub and the city and the spaceships etc.
the idea behind the piece is, a more realistic approach to the theme, the everyday person wouldn’t pick up guns and fight an enemy they’d probably despair that everyone they love will be blown up and the way they knew life will be over and take themselves out instead of face what comes. Depressing, but… eh haha. i want it to kind of look like an on old 50’s sci-fi film.
hey, i saw u didnt have any replies (just like me) and I thought I’d post…
anywho, interesting (and very dark) idea… but some things that stand out; the space ships are rather cliché–which could be kinda cool, but more probably–would be interpreted as unoriginal. And…lol, he has a tv in the bathroom?
cheers!
A nice image, and very different. You know, I like this painterly version quite a bit; I look forward to the furthering of the vision you have imagined.
I like that he was watching TV, at the same time he was looking out the hole in his wall at the destruction as he killed himself. Terrific somber mood, and tells the whole story brilliantly.
Smoking pygmies… this is rather bloody.
I actually like the concept of suicide vs. the invasion. Really though i think it would work to your advantage to be a little more subtle with the blood. The mood you set up is very powerfull, dont go a waste it by giving it away right away. You should make it so that the viewer slowly awakens to the horror of the whole scenerio. Imagine that you are someone who opened the door and looked out to a scene like this. How long really in an emotional and logical sense would it take you to understand the visual composition?
I think this has alot of potencial, if it can be just a bit more sophisticaed in its presention of horror.
Gremlin - haha thanks man you made my day, nothing ebttre that replys haha. about teh cliché space ships. i’ll try and make the best cliché spaceship i can so they dont missinterpret it as unoriginality on my part. i dont think it woudl make mcuh snece to ahve crazy high tech battlships for the kind of image im trying to make. i could be wrong, i hope im not : )
beverins - thanks a lot man. yeah i figured when i think of the 50’s i think of people listening to radios and watching tv. I’m probably way off on this but that’s the image i get, the perfect family, scared of the bomb watching the news and eating chicken. so yeah he’s watching tv, watching the president announce that shit has gone wrong haha and kill himself.
WazaR - thanks man, i agree, and i’ll be more subtle with the final image. i tend o go crazy with blood. it just looks so good i cant help but g over board with it every
Hey, cool concept. ![]()
Sort of Twilight Zone?
Maybe a little to bloody for my taste, but definitely with great potential.
I`m curious where this concept will lead you.
Keeping one eye fixed on your thread.
Good luck and be inspired!!!
Yep, very different.
I like a whole LOT the “intimate” approach. The dead guy seeing the destruction from his bathroom. Congrats. I’m looking forward for more.
Stefano
now there is one really freaky (in a good way) concept u got there… i want MORE!!
best of luck buddy ![]()
ok so got kinda bussy getting crazy at Halloween : ) now its done and im ready to start workin again : )
i’ll post my progress soon.
PROctavian - thanks man, yeah i guess its twilight zone-y. im getting a lot crits on the too much blood. i love the way blood looks i go nuts with it haha. i’ll look into toning it down a bit, …maybe haha, we’ll see how it all looks when its done.
Doublecrash - you rock brotha thanks a lot!
3doid - thanks man, thereÂ’s more coming!!! i swear! thanks for commenting!
He he, … regarding the blood, not the red colour is the problem, the problem is that its too salty! :bounce: Hey, ... Im curious what other ingredients you have for us!!
Keep it up, this is a cool genuine concept!!!
And may I suggest not to forget to incorporate the Grand Space theme behind the broken walls? It will be a sin not to qualify with such a great concept.
Keep it up!! ![]()
ok so yeah… now in its 3d glory. its so nice and blue and glowy now. cantw ait to amke it all rusty and… bloody?
alight, i started modeling the scene. im gonna slowly populate it. next up is working on the wall to make it broken… and the 50’s tv set : )… and of course the dead guy.
yeah my project is gonna have 2 parts this room and of course the space opera epic scene outside that you’ll be looking at through the room. but i really wanna spend my time on the room first to make it look as good as possible.
Personally I really like dark and depressive concepts, so I’m really looking forward to see how this evolves. Good to see you’re well on your way with the modeling. How individual challengers handle the concept phase is very different from one guy to the next. Some are very skilled digital painters and spend heaps of times on their sketches, while others (like me for instance) just try to get the milestone up ASAP to get it over with. The main point is to at least upload one concept sketch milestone, roughly matching the intended result, to comply with the rules.
The 50’s TV will probably contribute to a nice “War of the worlds” feeling here. Just make sure to keep the hole in the wall big enough to show a warzone of epic scale outside.
A challenge is a great learning experience. Have fun! I’ll hang around waiting for your next update…
