Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Mike Giannakopoulos

#81

Paul, thanks for the support. The Vulture material was a personal presentation mistake, none of the is supposed to be used in the final texture! I’ll send a non hi-fi image of the Vulture for critique too.

Michael, thanks man! Appreciate your comments on the Vulture, as I said above the shaders was a presentation mistaken (I’ll write down 100 times “never try this again”). The undercarriage is meant to be a mental amplifier thrust engine that’s why I put different colors to it. Thanks on the support for the Hive! Unfortunatelly, particles left a little behind (you’re doing a great work with them  ), a LOT of models to complete…See you soon with updates

Lemog, ohhhh!! :surprised do I have to texture them too? There :banghead: is :banghead: no :banghead: time :banghead: ! I’ll try drinking Nitro on the next month or so!

kaajey, thanks man! Actually I was thinking in adding something like hexa hole inside it, like an in/out to a second launching room.

rattlesnake, as you can see from the last “Hive” post I don’t plan adding more modelling parts in the inside. My perspective of the inside in the final image is that it’ll spit out a lot of Stingers and Vultures while the turrets in the front part keep shooting incoming Spitfires!! :bounce:

JamesMK, thanks man! The toast launcher would be a great idea for the back part wings I’ thinking (see my last Hive post)…
flyingP, overcontrast, ||) |V| |^|, Lelantos, Gunilla, Versiden thanks for the support! :bounce:

Hope I didn’t forget noone! Until next update:

Keep rockin’ everyone!!

:buttrock:

If you find a magic potion to finish in time… you can send me a little glass :scream:

Seriously… I like your Spit’… just one thing… I lke the wings design… but I find them to near the fuselage… I will prefer with a little arm or portion of with, to draw aside the wing… or cutting some hole, to have something visually more light…

#83

I wish I could find that potion (at some period RedBull worked fine though!)

Thanks for the suggestion. I had thought of it quite a lot and finally decided to go for a more compact design, but right now I don’t remember why! :surprised

I’ll give it a shot, thanks again

#84

Certainly due to too much RedBull, no ? :banghead:

#85

Quite the fleet…A lot of seperate models, and all done with some nice attention to details and various style’s…They all look like they belong within the same World, while still looking quite unique from one another…Your doing a very nice job here Mike, keep it going strong, your hard work is paying off real nicely for you…:arteest:

#86

I like your spitfire design. The side paneling looks good. When I design something I look for function not just cool factor and this definantly looks functional, plus cool factor :stuck_out_tongue: Great job. More updates please!

#87

 So far so good. Great and fast updates:thumbsup:
I like a lot the Atmospheric Reactor
Keep up the great work

#88

Well this is a start on another building, the name is corresponding to it’s composition position. Actually, the workflow is exactly the same as in the first building and it “flows” quite quickly! Coming soon with a final model.

#89

Here is a start on the Council Member concept. I’ve changed some things like all those wires that transfer “mental” energy on a backpack container. I hope I can plug lots of equipment especially on his back that is going to be visible in the final composition. C&C always welcomed, also some S (for suggestions) would be needed

#90

Lemog, Virtuoso, ||) |V| |^|, SUN (patrida!!) thanks for your support! I’ll try moving a hell of a lot faster with modelling to enter some texturing too!!:arteest:

Keep on rockin’ and rollin’ and funkin’ and… and… RnBeein’…Jazzin’… :scream::surprised (don’t mind my little brain-overheatin’…)

#91

Wow, Mike, you’ve certainly made a lot of progress in the past few days! I really like the start on the Council Member, and the detail work on the new building is quite impressive (though I don’t envy the task of texturing it – it looks like the back end of the “PC from Hell” … complete with a thousand expansion slots!). The pivoting side wings on the Spitfire are a nice touch, and the only real question I have at this point is how the colors will all fit together, as there are soooo many finely detailed pieces that look like they represent different materials … whew! I suspect you’ll be spending many, many late nights trying out texture and lighting variations! (As will we all.)

#92

I see that that advances quickly?

#93

wow… man geat updates here!
great detailing on the building and guy is looking good as well! he reminds me ‘predator’…
you’re right Mike… we (me too) have to move faster cos time is really running away…
keep great work up mate!
to express somehow my support i can tell you that my favorite writer is greek - Nikos Kazantzakis… and not only favorit writer but i think he is a greatest thinker and spiritual seeker of XXth century…
cheers mate…

#94

Nice progress Mike great details on the building you are moving fast
Weird guy… I LIKE HIM…:scream:

Good so far cant wait for more:bounce:

#95

The council member has a very interesting look… persuasive in that slightly uncomfortable way… you know like a salesman that used to be a mafia thug. I would want to see some sense of volume in that body of his, but I would assume you just haven’t gotten around to that yet. Looks really good.

#96

Hi Mike, have to agree to our contest-friends - time goes by - and I’m the best example how u should not to make (Machineflesh…my shame)

The councilmember looks really good and original…maybe his sideview looks a bit to lean…or is he made of an empty hull filled with energy?

Anyway, you are on track…

#97

hi …i like all the little details on the ship…for me is looking perfect…about the council member i think is a good idea to add details for the back…the only advice that come to my mind is that if he is not going to be to close to camera u better fake geometry using textures and alpha channels instead geometry just to keep your scene working fine…and well maybe more suggestions will come when the council member is close to b finished …but if u accept a little idea…i think he could look nice with a very large clothing…that falls to the ground …or maybe floats around… with some magical atmosphere…just a little idea that crossed my mind…of course is your design and you know what u want for your composition…

ok…ill b tuned here!

#98

Thanks everyone and have a nice month!!

Michael, thanks for the support. Texturing of these buildings surely is going to be a hell, but I’m thinking of 3 or 4 different variations for all the buildings’ small parts (Thank god greeble provides some auto poly selection and material assign!!). Thank god the nights are longer in winter!:applause:

worleyclarence, thanks…

Paul, thanks for the support man! I MUST work faster but I seem to lack some energy…maybe invent some galatic magical…hmmm…hmmmm…and mail it to all cg challengers…
I also think that Kazantzakis is one great mind of the past century and feed us with tons of thinking material, himself was a real traveler! (Going far with this so I’ll stop…)

Lelantos, thanks for the support man! Wishing the best on your GSO too!

JamesMK
, thanks for the support and comments! I hope I can add lots of volume in this guy 'cause two of them are standing right in front of the composition…hope I work thinks out good…

Saschi0815, thanks for the support! I’m thinking of this task as a good personal test, so I WILL finish it even and if I won’t make the deadline! The council member looks lean to me too…I’ll fix that soon…thanks again!

rattlesnake, appreciate the suggestion man! Actually he is going to stand right in front of us in the final composition…so I need some details for sure! The long cloth falling to ground with magical surround is an interesting idea…I’ll think it over!

Have a good new month! Hopefully coming soon with updates and more staff!!

Magic potion to everyone! :wavey:

Looking for that update…I like your latest Mike…It’s quite the load of models you have here…I can just say never compromise your models because of time, the shortcuts can always be seen if you do so.It’s always better to finish as you intended from the start even if it takes you that extra week or two after the deadline, better a perfect rendition of your vision a week late or so then a half way one a week or so sooner…So my advice…I invite you to work along side me for 70 to 80 hour weeks :wip: :arteest: the rest of the way, lots and lots of coffee and get this finished just right…Vision in perfect shape…I’'ll be looking for those updates, all the best and go at it hard, your doing a very nice job here…:arteest:

Mike - that is some crazy detailed modeling you’ve been doing since my last visit - amazing!
I agree totally with Virtuoso on this - better to complete the way you want it to be rather than stress something you’re not happy with. I also think that your models will look great even with very simple textures - it might even show off all the details better. Lots and lots of coffee it is - but don’t forget the fun
