Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Maximiliano Rocamora

#41

mmoir: thanks, I’m having problem with the colors, light in space its no so easy afet all I guess. Also I’m looking for another combination instead blue/green.
Also I’m refining the cargo ship for a more low poly version, about 10k only. because I need 6 on them on the screen and they are very far from the camera.

essencedesign: thanks dude for your comment, be original its one of the most dificult part on the challenge, so is great when I hear that, and more great when it comment from a so talent guy (I checked your entry, just wow!)

joshcxa: thanks!

#42

hey! great backgorund art! good luck!

#43

The final version of the cargo, 10k poly, 3 diferent textures. I’ll need 6 of them in my scene. Also you can see a little closer comparing the final camera distance.

#44

I think that the colour of yor ship is a litle be too light… in my opinion

#45

thanks, other people noticed that too, except me…
but here’s a little cold version, I put more dark green on the container and grey blue on the ship.
I hope looks better now!

#46

hey, i think your idea is great. And early on you said you might have troulbes conveaying a sense of ambush, well i had a idea, maybe have a few small enemy fighters in back already uncloaked or in the process and engaging and then show one or 2 shooting while in a clear cloaked stage so all u see is the lazer or whatever and the glow on the clear ship (like a ghost effect).just a thought oh and the latest render of your transport ship looks much better.

#47

Go with the second color scheme… it’s more dramatic. The other was too bright, like this last correction you made I’m liking them a lot more.

Stefano

#48

The first version of the human space fighter, its a very wip, maybe tomorrow I can post more updates.

#49

Another view. the copkit and weapons are still missing. more updates later!

#50

THe ship has a definite Sixties SciFi feeling about it and I like that.

Stefano

#51

thanks double, but forget that ship, I delete it… O.o

I’m not satisfied with the shape, I need something more boxy like the cargo. I want to make the human ships with that alien I style. I have to check the movies again for inspiration…

#52

Again and again I am reminded (in my daily life) of your space squid idea (I don’t know… maybe I’m having a nervous breakdown?).

The only crit I had against it was that (IMHO) it didn’t convey a massive, epic scale.

Then I thought… what if it was much bigger? What if it preyed upon worlds? What would it look like (from a futuristic city upon the surface) when it wrapped its tentacles around the planet and began to feed?

Just a passing (and recurring) thought. I know you’re well on your way with the original idea, but thought I’d mention it. And anyways, I can’t really think of a way to portray more than a part of the creature.

Cheers!

#53

Plague, the image is yours, you can delete whatever you like  :deal:

This said, I liked the look, but at the same time I realize that it wasn’t according too much with the others you posted.

Looking forward to see more.

Stefano

Modeling is great! I prefer the cold texture for the cargo, the first one was too “flashy”.
The new modeling is cool too!

Keep going! :wip:

#55

second attemp, I guess this fit better on the desing, more boxy, no use of meshsmooth. low poly count and nice shape, looks a little to a x-wing, but it not intentionally.

#56

ARG-Fighter Render, any comments or critics are welcome.

#57

Wow - pretty cool stuff.

I much prefer the later of the two fighters, as it fits in better with the cargo ship (which is also more ‘boxy’). I think that all ships belonging to one species etc. should have a roughly similar look, as they would be based on the same principal technology (consider the cars we have, all of them have certain aspects - wheels etc. - , most of them have other things in common - 3 or 5 doors, windshield, rearwindshield etc. - but their design elements have quite a large variation —dunno if this is any help, it was a bit of a stab in the dark).

Anyway, nice work (if a little post happy, lol).

#58

here we go!! this second model is way better than the first
I dont know if this will have a big role/importance in the pic, in that case I would suggest to elaborate a bit more the textures. (maybe just add some procedural to dirty it up a bit)
I would also make those cannons bigger and more defined!
cool progress! :applause:

#59

I started to texture the fighter, this is an example the wing area.
I have the paint material, the metal plates material, and the mask. (all made in ps)
I mix all together with a Blend Material.

#60

this is my progress so far.
I guess I’ll use the same technique for all the spaceship.
