Christoph_H84, SONIC-X, thoughtcriminal, joshcxa : thanks a lot

#42

I really like this, it’s the sort of Science Fiction I really enjoy reading, and the designs fit well in to. I’d perhaps make the whale a bit longer, but that’s just a personal thought not so much a criticism. Great stuff

#43

Elegant, accurate and really nice… wonderful feeling in your draw.

#44

Insane , and the whale draw is beautyfull . Already one of my favorites.

:applause:

#45

This is some realy retro stuff.

I like your style.

No star wars invluinces here.

#46

Woah, I really love these sketches; great work  Very eerie and atmospheric.

#47

Wow, this is like the best story ever! The grandest duel: Gaia vs Entropy -the ultimate battle for life… If this story reads off your final pic, I cannot imagine a more complete interpretation of the subject…

Of course, the physics of today entails the battle to be decided. In favor of entropy, but it is not in the nature of life to give up

OK forgive my babbling, I just simply love this story…

#48

I really like the concept. You can write your novel after the contest is over.

#49

I just can agree …

exciting.

#50

Love all your concepts so far. keep up the good work.

#51

Very nice.:applause:

#52

flyingP : thank you ! and you are definitely right about the proportions.

jddog, BartokDesign, SONIC-X, chlywly, sykosys, cg:unlimited, anti-shock, Taroe : thank you very much, your feedback motivates me!

yoff : thanks a lot! yeah entropy would definitely prevail, since the simple fact of sustaining the life of an organism elevates the entropy of the universe around the system… but at least it tries to make the entropy augment less quickly!

If you didn’t really understand the story here are some explanations :

well, it’s my view of the future of life on earth and beyond…
First, humans discover how genes exactly work and they understand all the laws of self-organization of matter.
Then, by perfectionning their machines, making everything smaller and smaller, they stumble on the same obstacles as life has encountered during evolution of cells
and they are able at a certain moment to create new lifeforms, that are the best machines possible, since everything inside them has a definite purpose;
and so they can create anything they want with the energy that is given to them.

At a certain point humans themselves become futile in evolution because what they have created does everything they can do, but better

seen from a distance, mankind in this context and in the evolution of life can be seen as a step forward for life, in understanding itself and the universe that surrounds it, and in beeing able to transform its varieties at will.

well a way to make you understand: cars, now , are almost like animals ( they eat petrol (=concentrated solar energy)), they have a motor that is like intestines + heart + muscles, wheels that are like arms and feet, a skeletton, and they sh*t in the streets… (we have not much evolved since the middle ages, at this time it was pigs, now , cars)) . But compared to animals, cars have a very low efficiency, you need a big manufacture and wastes of energy to create them . In some time we will be able to make all parts grow like living tissues, and by understanding the laws of genetics and self organisation, maybe be able to create a car that grows entirely from a little “cell” if you give it the proper environment and energy… and if that is done very well, there will be no distinction between life and technology ; of course we will need to create some sorts of “enhanced” tissues and cells
that can be very tough, and work with more energy.

So in this future life is very well organised, because it can think, predict, and transform itself at will and generate new lifeforms for specific purpose ;not like in the past (now and before ), where only natural selection was at work : here, it is lamarckian evolution (=cultural evolution : we need something, so we create it).

so life knows that it needs to extend in the universe to continue
for that, it needs to travel in space
but every previous attempt to colonise space were not very succesful
because the energy it needs is too big… and life knows that the only energy source that can lead it to where it wants is the sun
like it has always been
so it plans to extend itself around the sun and “take it” as an “engine” to travel in space.

well my image will take place while life is still growing on earth, not yet around the sun
and when earth is a whole organism
no more soil or rock
a big beast
still quite round
and it needs to grow more
so it drains matter from the other planets of the solar system
like jupiter, saturn etc
and those “whales” are the organisms that carry the matter from the planets to earth.

O_O … brilliant! Scary but VERY good one. Love the whale design too.
You really have given some thought to your work.

Well Hello Stranger…

Looks like you have a firm grip on the theme M@.........Nice cocnepts, and I like the Whale idea very much.I think we should see more of the off the beaten track "Space ships".Something more like the Whale for example, something more organic..........more retro perhaps........

Either way,I think your ideas and start are very promising,a very nice Space opera in the making.................I wish you the best M@...............

#55

Great story and even better concepts :). I can’t wait to see more. I have to admit that there is one thing I also thought of: using the sun as a energy source, but in my image planets will depict building the planets on suns(by decreasing the molecular size of the suns gazes and using it as a core for the planet) :). Well anyway keep it up and good luck.

P.S. But I’m sure you’ll be one of the top three

#56

Hi M@!
Your story is getting aready epical dimensions! And the concept scetches are really great
Aftre reading your explanation, I know U will like Alastair Reynold books! The civilisation is not so far developed as in your universe but there are many similar ideas
For example-huge suborbital gisslers, which transport passagners from spaceships on planets and vice versa. And the pilots aregenetically mutated whales, who are brilliant navigators. Actually the spaceship and the whale are basically same being-the ship is usually builded around whale

#57

I really like the earth surface with the tall tree looking building. It has a lot of character. Great design!

#58

I like the whale ship, but since this species is all biological I picture a different type of propultion for the ship. Maybe a solar sail or something along the line of solar energy. I guess when I see the stream of energy shooting out the back I think mechanical, something biological would be more organic.

#59

My guess is that you’re working on form right now before exploring colours. You mentioned a couple of times that the visuals don’t feel tridimensional enough. Perhaps an integral part of the interaction with earth-matter and space-void will be the gradation and play of colours. Partial transparency and translucency may also help you out. The images look very frosty right now with the stark black-white forms. I’m not quite sure about what I’m suggesting, but it is a thought.
The images remind me a bit of my sketching style; my pen has an obsession with edges. It bounds and defines the forms before they even have the chance to evolve or develop.

wow!! beautfull concept!!
best luck
