Hello Everyone, nice to meet you.

My concept:

In the future Earth civilization the spiritual/political leader is the DJ who guides the population through music. The people of earth have recently breached a new frontier of space where they have encountered a race of belligerant jellyfish-like aliens. A huge battle breaks out between the aliens and humans ( though in my universe the human alien battle is more like a brawl and involves humans floating in spacesuits fighting the aliens hand-to-hand, or with hand-held weapons; At any rate, not necessarily in ships ). When the scene takes place the sky is clouded with a vast army of floating fighting figures.

Just as the battle reaches its peak, the DJ, a mystical Gandolfesque figure, always showing up at the last minute, appears on the scene. He starts spinning his DJ music and through it the hearts of the combatants are calmed. They pause, look at each other abashed for fighting, and lower their weapons. Then slowly, cautiously at first, the aliens and humans all begin to dance. The party atmosphere builds until the sky is filled with one giant, triumphant space-rave, and we as viewers are left with the impression that there will be peace forever more. The scene takes place looking over the army of partying figures, with the DJ overseeing it all.

I have this image in my head of the DJ in the upper right of the image, in front of a planet with an atmospheric glow with its light sort of bleeding over him, emphasizing his God-role in the image. The rest of the sky is clouded with alien and human dancers. Anyway, it’s better described with pictures, I’ll get some concept art up soon.

I know this is a much more lighthearted idea than most, but I am serious about it, and though it’s probably not a “winning” concept I think it’s got a lot of style and I hope to learn a lot. I think the hardest thing is going to be blending the epic feel that the contest requires with the hip-hop flavor of my universe. I’ll have to see what I come up with.

Anyway, again, nice to meet you all. Good luck everyone!

Great concept ! Very fun, original, and quite powerful too. Keep it up!

#6

Very fun and original idea :thumbsup:
I can see it now, a DJ in a floating bubble that has lights pulsing away.

I would love to see how you will pull this off… The only thing I’m confused on is how everyone hears the music in space. Is it pumped in through their com gear?

I’m not very good with Photoshop… I think I’ll be drawing the rest of my concept art by hand and scannnig it ^_-.

Thanks for all the encouragement so far!

Here’s a first concept sketch of the DJ. I’d never actually tried to paint in Photoshop before, and this is a first attempt. I’ve got a lot to learn! I relized just after I submitted it that it’d have been better off with some big speakers floating around behind him, which is my intent for the actual image.

This also leads to the sound-in-space question, which the speakers are going to bring even more to light… kekeke I figured someone might ask about it :). I think that part of the charm of the image is its cartoonish-ness… I’m not going to worry too much about the technical details. In fact, I’m even going to force the ridiculous of it a little with details like the speakers.

More concept sketches to come!

#12

sounds intresting  Subscribing!

#13

Looks like fun, reminds of a photophreakingfriday where somebody made a photomontage of two astrounauts raving in Space Shuttle Payload Bay, very funny indeed.

This is surely a original concept, most original i have seen so far.

#14

great concept. funny how it parralells reality for so many people I know. We are all in our own little space opera sometimes. I look forward to your logical progression.

Hello Lilli, it’s definetely the most original story that I’ve read so far…and I saw many of them…I’m trying to read all threads (hundreds)…why don’t you try to put some kind of “space-platforms” , just here and there, among the soldiers in fight…then in some platforms there are people dancing and in some other a few bastards continue to kill. In a frame you could fit 3-4 platforms, at different levels and angulations…did you already think to something like that?
Thank you. Have a nice work. Bye

Hi Lilli, glad to see a different angle on the concept theme - I’ll keep watching to see how your rave progresses. Good luck with the photoshop painting! Claireabella
