Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Jeremy J Hampton

Thanks for the bost guys…looks like things may workout afeter all…no time for any mistakes though…

Darkone2652.
…Yes a little crazy…didn’t think it would get that big untill I started adding things…I mean the wagon beast with the nest is near 2 mill…and I really didn’t over subD anything…there are just lots of little(but visible) details that just started to add up…I made some corrections to the lighting and got the grway out…bluer tones now with a cloded sky with 3 moons showing and some stars…some oranges and yellows as well from torches some of the Ta`gag will be holding…

jddog.
thank you for that comment…i was going for a balance in the image that included the sirenity of the humans…that’s kinda why I made them lookl ike monks…the perfect contrast to the beasts…

artemesia66.
looks like things may work out…Ive got 3 computers running renders right now…a couple of them are dinosaurs but I’m puttin them to work :argh:

yunisirees
What I have shown here in the last screen shot is not all of what I have rendered…there are about…um…maybe 20 or more additional “agents” in the scene in my final render… :banghead:

ArtisticVisions
It’s called split render…and unfortunatly it didn’t work like I wanted…nothing bad about the plug in but I think what I threw at it was just to much…plus I’m learning that even though it splits up your render…it really just makes a bunch of “limited range” scenes…and LW’s limited range is a joke because it still caches the entire scene wich means …urggg…not enough memory for segment buffers…or point data…or polygon data…I’ve even seen one over this past week about bounding box error…poor LW…it needs to catch up to the times really bad…

…anyways back to my post as render watcher…I will try an update a few of the rendered plates for you guys here in the next day or so but time is really of the essence here, need to stay focused,

bye bye

Jeremy~

im just here to remid you that your work is rocking…and also im sendig all good vibrations and good luck for your final steps…:)

hey essence, I’m sorry to hear about your rendering problems, this sort of thing sooner or later happens in every program, that’s the nature of the beast… I would suggest to have the PFX separate in a different scene and that should help alot.

are you raytracing everything? are you rendering via F10 rather than F9? Have you figured out what’s the biggest size you can go without a crash?

If you are raytracing make sure you check the “unseen by rays” option to things that do not requires raytracing.

Don’t forget to lower the render subpatch level to SDS objects that are far in the distance (if any)

I have no idea what kind of problems I’ll find at render time myself, but I’m assuming I will have some just because of the size of everything.

Thank you snoWs…you have touched onevery optimization I have made…I wanted to render simple in one or 2 layers , but it is not to be…this scene anyways is a prime target for compositing and post with all those layers in the battle…so that is what I am doing…

,ex…Background Layer 1 … cliffside W/Fighters.lws…9 pass medium…yesterday…18 hrs…

I figure I can do it all in about 5 layers…and # 4 is going to be finished tonight around 4 am…so I’ve got the alarm set to pop up and set up layer 3…

…the huge rendering times I’m sure are due mainly to the amount of calculations poor LW must do for a crowd scene like this…

Lighting set up…

Home made HDRI @43 %

5 various spots for color enhancemnt…
2 omnis for subtle ambient hues…
LW ambient @ 15% …
GI 8/24 bounces (that’s the render killer right there!!!)
about 15 or maybe more small points and spots for props ( torches and headlights on the dropships)…

…that coupled W/ millions of polys and you have a render nighmare…not to mention all the PFX…

but hey it has to be done…I had budgeted out 10 days for render time from a long time ago and it’s a good thing…

#465

wow man that’s incredible. How large is your final image size?

#466

hey man, can’t wait to see what this renders gonna look like, what’s your E.T.A. on an update?

#467

That is looking amazingly detailed.I am waiting your render.

#468

Just a small rendered piece from the corner…will post more as things start comming together…

ordered up another gig 1/2 today ( my stations take Registered EEC so I have to order it) will be here tommorow…then will have 4 nodes rendering on the last 4 layers…will just cut it by AGAIN…I think…I hopE>…

still need to also paint stars to this sky…

#469

hey…render is looking good man!! keep goin!

#470

just the layer including the wagin and a few of the ground peoples…I have another layere on fire PFX rendering in another layer plus smoke to give more depth to the torch fore…I know it’s a miniscule detail but It needs to be right…2 more renders in the morining…

#471

I am going to paint the muzzle flashes in from the blasters…I just got sick of testing PFX and coulden’t get the right look…plus i didn’t have the time to keep testing and had to move forward…so a few things like that will be done post…Peace…

#472

Yeah brother everything’s coming along smoothly. The layered rendering’s coming along nicely, so I wouldn’t worry about the deadline.

Cheers!
