Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Jason Butler

#81

woooo!! Another Amazing work, everything is good!! no comments!

#82

Awesome… I love the 50’s feel and I’m you can pull this off in B&W!

Great ship / character designs! Can’t wait to see it finished!

#83

Looks amazing! Not sure I like the eyes though. I’ve never seen a depiction of a “Grey” with whites around the iris…They tend to all have Silver->black eyes or Irises that cover the entire exposed portion of the ball…

#84

modeling / texturing progress. took the advice of toning down the whites of the eyes. i like him better like this.

#85

Hi flinder

I love your Retro style, and lighting, maybe space suit could be a bit brighter, over all it looks fantastic, cant wait to see the finished work,

I liked the old eyes you had on your alien… very Tim Burton “Mars Attacks”-esque. I think the darker eyes make this piece seem a little more serious than maybe you’re going for?

Just a thought…

Looking great overall though!

#87

whoa… the alien looks wicked man… the black and white really sells it… good call!

I like the eyes, so much life… he’s almost like a cross btwn ET and those aliens from Mars attacks… hehe

amazing work man

#88

Extremelly wicked details on this model man… Hadn’t seen this thread before… Good luck with the contest…

#89

modeling / texturing progress on the hero model.

#90

looking good, my only comments is about the arms. they look too rubbery and I think they are out of proportion as well. There are 3 finguers that look like they are broken. One more thing, the knees look a bit too sharp, but it could just be the angle… I don’t know how much of the character will be seen in your scene tho.

#91

completely re-worked the body model of the earth guy. he is, i think, in much better proportion now. i’m not a huge fan of the current detailing (straps, etc) on him. i’m going to re-work that as well.

using references kinda helps.

#92

LOL!

Looks much better. I think that the feet might be too long and the heels need to be a bit more prominent. There is still something with the hands… I dunno, maybe the finguers are too long…

#93

much better. i re-worked all the extra suit details. i feel this is a bit truer to 50’s sci-fi costumes (and to my original concept sketch) than the first model.

i’m going to try getting his head finalized next.

#94

okay, i think this is the final earthman model. i may do a slight tweak to the skin shader, but that’s about it.

#95

slightly tweaked and more or less final version of the martian model, with the earth guy in the background for scale.

#96

:bounce:Excellent work Jason, I love it. Keep at it. Have a happy safe and wonderful new year!

#97

well, it unfortunately looks like the chances of me finishing this in time are pretty slim. don’t really have the spare time at the moment. it’s not entirely out of the question, but not likely.

but, even if i don’t finish, to prevent some of this stuff from going to waste, i think i’m going to put together a little mini-animation featuring some of these models.

thanks again to everyone who provided feedback. much appreciated.

#98

trying to get my final scene and lighting scheme together.

i think my lighting approach will be very much along the same lines as a lot of my test renders. high-contrast, low-set sort of lighting.

the question is, can i possibly finish this in 48 hours?
