i’ve decided to re-tool the tank design. i like it okay, but i think it could fit better with my theme. new sketches to come.
Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Jason Butler
I like the style of the models, like old sci-fi magazine covers… I thought about doing something like this too, unfortunately I’m probably not going to participate this time…
Good job, and good luck!
as you can probably see from above, i’m going for a sort of insectoid kind of texture for the martian technology / vehicles.
Looking great Jason… the textures and modelling are very nice, I like your stile …
I’ll be around here, continue the good work…![]()
That robot is sooo retro awesome. Great work on the look. In my opinion it would be hella awesome if you could find a way to make it look like the 50s-60s movies looked. With all the toy cars and buildings, strings holding up the “saucers”. Either way its gonna be awesome to see this one come together.
almost done texturing the vehicles.
this is also a test to see how everything looks in black and white. i haven’t decided if i’m going to go that route yet, though.
lol, this is awesome man… it looks like something right out of Mars Attacks
black and white also looks really cool!
keep the updates coming ;p:thumbsup:
been a few days since my last update, thanks to this guy. i’ve never really tried a human face before, so it gave me some problems.
i’m working on the martian model as well.
Love the retro style. Black and white is a must in my opinion, although admitedly it would be a brave move. Overall I think it’s a brilliant idea!
The head is very good epecially as it’s your first try. I’d suggest shaping the underside of the chin a bit more as he looks a bit saggy and rounded there and I imagine that an heroic chap such as he would have chisels on his chisels
Good stuff, i’m looking forward to seeing where you go with this.
Dave.
swamps - thanks for the input. good point on the chin area. i’ll re-work him a bit to try to give him a little more of a square jaw.
hey very nice meling man… seems like ur taking the classical approach to ur opera…very nice… bet of luck mate…btw is the lips sealed in the head model?.. it just seems odd to be, but hey thats just me… orite man… best of luck… keep updateing ![]()
I really like the mix of 50’s style in your designs!
one suggestion from my side, I think you should give the human character some style to, and not strive for realism there. because if you do, it will most likely(for me atleast) kill the spirit of the rest, it’s very hard to make realisitc characters appealing, as u did with the rest so far… go for style, sharpen up his face, exaggerate some parts, remove unnecessary details and you’ll produce something great I’m sure.
Hi there Jason
Great concepts and overall retro style! I’m totally into this kind of stuff…
Awesome work with the shaders as well, altough I do have a few crits…
First, the chitinous “insectoid” material on the robot should imho be a little darker on the edges to bring out the color on the centre… a fallof mask based on viewing angle should do the trick.
Also the glass on the flying saucer is lacking a more defined edge… think Buzz Lightyear’s helmet in Toy Story… it’s 100% fake but it works wonders!
Btw, great job with the head model, especially being your first attempt at this ![]()
Congratulations and good luck! See ya
