Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: ian bambao

#1

ian bambao has entered the Grand Space Opera 3D.

#2

A concept art of the environment setting i want to use for some hover crafts.

#3

I like the idea of something big standing on thin roots

A bit more variation for the townparts would help

have fun

#4

Looks really neat. The cities looks like some mountain city in Peru but in a steam punk setting. It’s not yet really epic but i guess that will show when the hovercrafts gets into the picture…

#5

the idea is nice, but don’t forget stuff like an infrastructure to make it a bit realistic (maybey a string between 2 “towns” or w/e that they can drop by?).
Or else people will be more watching like “Hey, how do they get from one town to another?” instead of “Hey, that’s one pretty cool space opera”.
Give it a thought (don’t forget that you might pull it off without using my lame ideas at all :))

#6

Thanks for everyone’s imput. I will try to implement some of the suggestions like putting a little more structure and variation to the environment . It looks more unstable than i wanted it to be.

#7

Think of a creature that’s light…Birds, Faires ect…

That will give those buildings believibility as far as sturdiness goes.

#8

Riven anywone? looks sweet this will be a good one.

#9

Here is the start of the main character that i want to depict in the environment scene. He will be flying the main hover craft, that will look like a dragon.

#10

Here is a concept art of the dragon craft that the boy will be flying in the environment. I not sure about the back-end and the engine compartment. Pleas feel free to critique my work and don’t hold back.

#11

Hey, your ideas are great.
It gives me a nice feeling looking to your sketches.
Anctious to see the 3d models.
Happy rendering!!

#12

Very cool concepts on the city and the flying machine…very artistic and original…and that’s the kind of thing that win’s votes…keep going man…you are off to a good start

#13

Very nice! I love the face and the composition. I have had many dreams of terraforming planets using organics stimulated by nano-technology to grow into particular patterns able to be lived in and as they grew, provide the oxygen needed to sustain life once it arrives many years later.

#14

nice work…

i love the environment , good luck

#15

The concepts look awesome. I just have to say good luck modelling the environment, because it looks insane

#16

heya

that’s a really cool concept for a speed craft. Keep up the awesome work

#17

Yeah, its going to be insane modeling the cities. I hope everything will work out as i planned. BACK TO MODELING

#18

Great consepts, really looking forvard to se sme more.

Carl.

#19

Nice to finally see something differnt…

Your vision of city slums is at the same time eerie and yet not so impossible. It gives the impression that these people have suffered and survied some great tragedy and now the planet surface is no longer livable.

Any ideas on a final composition?

Ian,
This is cool. When you showed me this Dragon vehicle the other day I wasn’t aware it was for this project. I hope you have a good time creating this, if you put enough into it it will look fantastic, but it will be a lot of work.

On to comments:
The Dragon-craft: It looks structurally believable and interesting. I can’t really see what’s going on with the very rear fin/tail shape, and I can’t tell the materials from the concept, but that’s irrelevant at the moment. Flesh out the rear shape, and possibly the outlined shape at the mid-top if that’s intentional. This is if you have time away from modeling it. The concept is good to go for the most part and you’ve got plenty of direction as it is.

The Character: Difficult to comment on because of it’s early state. The only thing jumping out at me at this point are the eyes, which seem overly-large, but given that this might be a stylistic choice then that could be ignored. Looking forward to seeing more finished and seeing what you do with the surfaces and style.

The city:
This will be amazing if you have a consistent feel throughout the environment and the vehicles and people populating it. As someone before mentioned: you could probably break up the repetition of shapes throughout the larger city clusters by altering the buildings slightly. I suggest varying roof-top shapes as well as difference in scale between buildings. Just slight changes will add a lot to it.
You should also keep your center of gravity in mind. I really dig the design of this city, but they appear slightly off balance which is the only thing keeping it from a believable-yet-still-whimsical appearance. Keep that overall shape with the bent central support and top-heavy look, because that’s cool, but make certain you’ve got a straight line from top to bottom or else it looks likely to fall over.
Smaller details in some areas here will add a lot; like air-docks for the hovercraft and aerial vehicles (if any exist).

Sorry it took me so long to reply. Looking really good and it’s cool to see you pumping out work for it. I hope you get what you’re after.
