Okie,
Got some quick drawings done…not sure which direction my soldiers are going…i’d like to go for a post apoc survivor/ battle weary warrior look. Rusty, scratched up armor with a futuristic flare.

I also see lots of potential.
The central item could have a lot of effects, like lighting and crystals,
refraction and stuff.
On the other hand I agree with a previous comment that the hero could have a sword?
Also he could maybe have a slightly more prominent placing in the composition.
Otherwise I like your sketching.
Cheers

Hey Carlos!
Thank you very much for the kind words. I’m not sure about the sword, but I can definetly reconsider composition. After having a chat with a few designer friends, an idea was also brought up about having the generals on some sort of seat carried by lower ranking soldiers or slaves. Any thoughts on that guys? I’ve also been toying witht he idea of having different types of soldiers…medics, soldiers playing horn instruments for battle (not your traditonal horn, but something far out there), banner carrying dudes and everyday, cannon fodder, foot soldier.
Comments are always welcome.

Thanks again ARSA!
The problem is going to be mixing those “primitive” ideas with a spacey look…but, then again, just because it’s “space” doesn’t mean it has to be high tech looking.
Gav
I’m with ya there man!
It can be some sort of “primitive- but at the same time evolved” Race. Like is so far away from our solar system, that we dont know them yet…
I like the whole leader carrying thing
NOTE: what about create the whole concept mecha/organic
( like the weapons, armors, the look of the characters, etc)
Hey hey ARSA,
Yeah, originally, I was thinking of a Mad Max/Fallout type of deal. I’d like it to be a bit more original though…not so much “post apoc” but more towards “fighting to the death.” An army of guys who’s only purpose in life is to rid the universe of an evil, dominant race. Many of them with stiched up/quickly repaired armor, blood stains from previous battles…tired, battle weary posture…oh yeah:twisted:
Gav
If you can get across the tired and battle weary idea through your figures I think this piece could totally rock, because it would really express emotion, and would probably have more of an impact than if they just seemed ‘normal’.
I like the idea of the lower rank soldiers, as with most military there’s a hierachy, so it would be a logical thing to have.
The concept sketches are cool, really define the geometry and volume well, I can’t wait to see them begin to come to life through 3D.
Thanks steve
Yeah, I don’t “clean” would work well in this scene…for one the environment is going to be swampy and second of all I want to portray generations of war.
I do think the hierachy would make sense, and wouldn’t be hard to pull off…
Again, thank you for your kind words
Looking forward to more comments or questions, hopefully will get some more time to sketch later tonight.
-Gav
I never really thought about that…probably just make them all guys. Yeah, i know, equal rights…whatever
Cheers,
Gav
Just to make things clear I’m not a female, with that said here I come:
These people are fighting WITH ALL THEY GOT, right? well that includes females, old folks and kids too… I think that will bring that sense of fighting for what you trully believe with all you got. Lets take for example Vietnam war, the vietnam kids were as dangerous as a grown adult. they killed people too, and the females, OMG! I have heard stories from my friends father about the females, and how they defend themselve agains rapist. I know this is not the case here, but when military troops got close to a village, equal man and females fought for what they believe, and freedom.
That is very true, and a very good point, but I was just going to go for the more “men go to war, women and children stay home.” So, that could kind of fall in with what you said. The men could be out blasting away the enemy, while children and women (who appear defenseless) stay at home…and if an enemy gets close…they know how to fend for themselves.
Gav
at least I would like to see some interaction between, male, females, kids, old people, you know what I mean or where I’m going… right?
At least one female, that did not wanted to stay at home, you know, she wanted to battle along side her patner/lover/husban/brother/father/friend…
that adds passion to the scene, like if you have a female there, alongside the leader, or along side one of the important soldiers, like holding him, protecting him, while every man is for itself…

I know what you maen and thanks for the input! But…I’d kind of just like it to be your stereotypical, war hardened army. Although, i could work in slave girls for the leader…no, that wouldn’t go over too well
Gav
Hey!
Good luck!
I liked your idea, it reminds me of the movie The Last Castle, their last victory was to put the flag in the pole! So why don’t you give the leader a flag and they seem to be moving toward the middle thing, so that could suggest that!
Oh well it’s a suggestion, but I thing you have an idea already!
Thanks for all your help by the way!
Jorge
Yo Jorge!
Thanks and no problem
Hopefully, there will be a sketch posted later on tonight…i’m trying to figure out exactly what I want. Maybe somekind of old school military gas mask helmet thingy (kind of like the cover for Fallout)…i dunno. Have some tubes connecting from the helmet to a respitory system on his chest or back…old rusty armor mixed with military apparel…we’ll see
Cheers,
Gav
Another sketch for the soldier, think i’m getting closer to what I want. Their skin will be all discoloured and gross. I’d like to show that they’re suffering from a sickness, like the giant mound of material is causing a plague on thier planet…and that’s why they’re going to destroy it. Obviously, this guys sporting some snazzy thrown together armor and duds.
I’m happy to answer any questions and, as always, look forward to your comments.
Thanks,
Gav
Nice sketch, he looks cool.
Covering the majority of the face is a good idea also, it makes it harder to tell if a lot of the characters in your scene are duplicates or not, because faces are normally the most individual characteristic of a person.
