Hi Gary,
i really like your concept pic! Huge collapsing moon will be really disasterous view
Maybe add some comets hitting the ground and destroying buildings…? I also visited your homepage- really impessive work :bounce: !
Hope Your 3d-muse gives to U a lot of excellent ideas
Grand Space Opera 3D Entry: Gary Hanna
I like taavi’s idea of pieces hitting the ground. Maybe off in the distance, causing firestorms on the horizon? Also, it might be neat to see one of the evacuation ships streaking through the foreground.
Nice concept.
Very cool man. I dig the massive attitude of the piece. I really like the idea of adding some of the planets royalty witnessing this. It’d be chilling to watch. Can’t wait to see more.
Thanks for the input guys! Great ideas about the additional destruction.
I’m hope to be posting another concept or two today because I am still on the fence about this current idea.
Here’s a thumbnail of another concept I am kicking around, “Discovery of Eden 3”. The beginning stages of exploration and discovery of a new planet. More concepts to come.
I liked your first concept best, a collapsing moon would be really neat if you could pull it off. I instantly though of Time Machine where it’s our own fault that the moon gets destroyed and since it brings the destruction of civilization it’s a pretty epic moment…
I am going to go with this idea. I ready to start moving forward.
The basic idea is that a very nasty race is invading a peace loving planet. This race takes their black viscous atmosphere with them on their conquests. The large ships spew it out for the ground troops below.
I will probably bring a character or two up to the foreground but I will tweak with that once I have most of my assets built.
I see particle hell in my future.
I liked your first idea but this new one has some serious potential for visual interest, the idea of taking thier atmosphere with them to other planets is very interesting indeed. It leaves lots of room for some great visual effects work an the atmosphere itself as well. It’s also a great and ‘epic’ scene, thousands of invading soldiers atarkly contrasted to the peaceful planet they’ve landed on, very nice.
Dave.
Here is the comp for the alien race that will be invading the good guys. This is a quick sketch of the head with full body and armor to follow.
I am thinking about keeping him very pale (to contrast with the their black atmosphere).
Comments please.
Hey Gary,
Nice concept images , the one you have decided on is really unique. It will be interesting to see how you progress.

Exellent stuff here, my personal favorite would be the first “discovery of eden 3”
I dont know if itsomething personal but it feels really cozy. And whats cute (first time ever to use the word "cute" ) about it - the black banner that CgTalk stuck on it doesnt fit :] How rebellious even
About the alien dude, well he seems a tad melancholic… somehow doesnt relate to the evil in me. Maybe with the armour hell look more intimidating. Carry on
That is a cool concept, and frightening to imagine. The black viscous atmosphere is a great touch! These are the kind of creeps that keep the “TQ” busy protecting the less advanced worlds in the Milky Way Galaxy. I’m pleased that you alerted us to their presence.

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated.
Ganthu - Thanks for the input. Yeah, the sketch of the alien is on the sleepy side, but I do plan on laying on the armor and weapons. Not too many, but enough to make them look like they mean business. I wanted to keep them rather humanoid and go for a creep factor more then outright aggressive looking. that’s the plan, at least.
Dougbot, Screamingwing and Daniel - Thanks for the input. And Daniel, now that we know they are out there, we’re pretty much dead meat. Sorry.
Finally got around to working on this again.
here is a sketch of the full character. I will probably add a little hardware to him during the modeling stage but I am still focusing on more of a creep factor then a big heavily armed creature.
Not sure if it’s there yet so some feedback would be great.
Good work on the “creep factor.” He’s got kind of a zombie look to him which, at least to me, is the creepiest monster around. Two very nervous thumbs up.
Oh yeah man, awesome. I dig that a lot. Hopefully you’re thinking of him being kind wet and slimy. Maybe not. Greta stuff.
