Okay. This time I really have to finish something. I am NOT going to be lazy. I have the entire Christmas vacation to do something as well. NO EXCUSES.
The first thought is a Romeo and Juliet type setting… Space Hero is weeping over dead Space Heroin! The lords and governors of the land stand watching… Kind of inspired by Rennaisance paintings.

I want the feel of buxom voluptuos ladies on steps clambering at Romeo while he holds his Juliet. A field of Soldiers look on at their leader weeping…
Here’s some reference I have started to acquire.
This is just for the typical scenario where everybody is talking to somebody. I want to acheive that in the crowd all whispering, asking “who died?” ; )
Below is where I am going with the people trying to get close.
However I have to set this all on some stage which will signify Space Opera…
So as far as a style I was thinking mixing Robots, Pinnochio 3000 and The Incredibles in one cartoony feel. I am just prone to going the toon route. I just don’t handle realism well.
Soo… back to work.
Here is reference for my soldiers.
Based on roman soldiers, I will be taking the basic look and making robots of them.
I have had an idea of maybe a better scenario.
It will be an exodus of sorts - for some reason, unknown to the audience. Masses and masses of people, all similar in appearance are flocking into the sunset.
Only a father and his child stand watching. Deciding to stay and “fight” the evil or troubles that is coming.
I know its been done before … however for me I think it will be more interesting. To do a landscape and people. I wasn’t too stuck on the whole robots stuff.
I have a better idea how I will actually complete this in time…

will be very interesting with millions of people walking to the horizon and the harsh backlight lighting them up.
Okay - since this is Grand Space Opera - I have decided to make the foreground duo Soldiers in space attire (dont ask me what space attire is yet) also I will be including some vehicles in the mass exodus crowd. The battle has been lost or is just starting and the civilians who always get the short straw are leaving (or are being forced out of their land)…
Anyway, back to the sketch book. I need to design my soldiers and pose them better on the hill top.
Have you decided on concept two? I think the first one, with the Romeo and Juliet theme felt rather refreshing. Haven’t seen much romance around here yet. Also the possible style of renaisance-robots makes me real curious how they would look. Good luck with it!

Concept one seems too tough :eek:
I love the idea of the renaisance-robots, keep going on that.
The modelled scene concept seems promising, lot of room for some big crafts in the sky:)

This was my third/forth idea from the start and was the most feasible in the time. It changed from father and daughter viewing the exodus to soldiers quite late in the planning.
Rennessaince robots are officially dead -
I am definately going this route as you can see by the Concept sketch submitted above.
Heres a start at the color scheme and give you an idea of the layout
Here is my test at populating the crowds.
It goes quite quickly
I have made a basic set of 6 different looking people (soon to be more)
These are then all rigged to the same skeleton.
I pose it and duplicate 12 models out - two per base model.
and position these.
I then repose the rig and do the same.
Add various objects like sacks and sticks etc. - so far 50 people in my crowd-
I want in the end to have around 1500…
I have too much work to do for the next three weeks and then I am off to Mozambique till Christmas. I wont work on this till after Christmas so if I still feel like it then I will be back.

awesome concept man…but always remember this is a space opera… so u need to make it more galaectic…that was just to rimind u so u stay in the hallange topic. anyways, i really liked the Exodus idea. and u got some awesome rendering comming out… keep em up man… best of luck
