Beautiful modeling! I am interested to see how you complete this project. So far it is great! I was wondering how you will apply the question you raised before:
How will this effect your final comp.
I could not agree with you both more. When I think of the greatest legends in all of sci-fi history, I can think of only one solid theme between them and the masses of umm “Campy”, sci-fi, consequences that ripple out from any event. Every speices has motivation. Find the motivation for your combatants and then try to capture the emotional fortitude required to achieve that in the reaction of the viewer. I gather that this a competition seeking things beyond “cool factor” alone. I can tell your probrably going to be one of the best contenders so pull no punches and rock on!
Yes I do agree with this, but how could we have such inspiration if in every single sci-fi movie or series we have ships and battles (and sound in outer space). If I can remember just one movie doesn’t have this kind of thing and is an actual movie, SOLARIS. But the theme is other than a crucial moment for any civilization, although in a psych level is a great breakthrough for the human kind.
Anyway this work of yours will be big!
Just a note of warning I guess…I have noticed in these competitions that if you are too “different” and the judges/audience doesn’t see how your work applies to the topic, it might not make it. I think you can go with space, planets, ships, and all off the above and still be original…it just takes extra creativity. later! - my 2 cents
back again,
thanks everyone for the comments, this is’nt what it would be without you guys
anyway I’m having major difficulties with getting ideas on paper (I seem to have the idea when it’s useless, and when I want to visualize it on paper or something I keep forgetting it xD)
maybey I’ll make the centre building a bit more simple, or do it without much of a sketch :]
edit: POST #100 !
I like the sheer complexity of the city scene - but as others say it is too regular. You might be able to improve it very easily by adding some large spacewarps lattice warps to the hole thing to add gentle hills and some deviations to the straight road network.
well I’ve been thinking of 2 diffrent things:
I think your idea of this vast urban environment is just brilliant (reminds me Corusant). The idea of a central building is great. I think you should rize buildings as they are closer to this tower, to have it look like the urban landscape merges together forming this tower. Thereby, you also get rid of the detail problem for the tower.
Use the radial concept you posted quite early and put in a bit more variation (maybe just make some buildings higher than others with a random pattern to it).
i did like the square concept as much as the radial, because one sees the repeativeness right away, but maybe you could use it in the background.
Keep it up and good luck to everyone! Really cool seeing many excellent ideas being formed here.
Did you use some kind of plugin to make the buildings? would you share your secret? :buttrock:
Your ships also rocks!
it seem this will be a very hard challenge, there are so many and so good artists!
