Challenge Page

Latest Update: Modeling: Start of robot

ok it’s late on in the challenge but I’m going to have a go at finishing it anyway.

This image is the start of my main robot. It’s a 3/4 rear-left view because all these robots will be seen mainly from the back so I’m not going mad over detail at the front.

I’m modeling this in Lightwave[7.5d]

The robot ‘torso’ on the left is sud-D patched and the torso on the right is un-patched. I’m making the robot quite angular and not using many large curves because I will be having a lot of these in the scene so I want to be able to turn the subdivision level down the further the robots are away from the camera. If I had lots of large curved surfaces then they would look ‘too’ different when un-patched.

Sorry for the roughness of this, just wanted to block the general idea out.

My piece will be about the delivery of 110197 heavy-duty warbots to the Imperium.
The warbots are made under license by a planet populated with aliens of poor economic status. They are milling around and finishing final tweaks to their stock before the immense Imperium mothership takes all the warbots on-board.
In the foreground you can see a local tribal councellor and his aides floating around supervising progress. To the right a crop dusting vehicle sprays bone dust as a good luck charm to the newly completed war machines.

More later…

…for the double post. Don’t know why that happened ??!

#4

yah hey I thought it was a double post too when I joined and posted but on the top it shows ur lastest image / post you put up. So the next one overides the top one and so forth…

I was stupid and deleted my concept sketch from my thread thinking the samething ROFL.

#5

Ah! thanks for clearing that up. It makes perfect sense now =]-

Just a quick sketch at the rear view of the robot[s]. The front and side views won’t be so important so I won’t do them straight away.
Because there are going to be [hopefully] thousands of these robots in the scene I’ve chosen to make them out of simple shapes so that the scene as a whole doesn’t appear too busy.
