Hi all.

This is the first challenege I’ve entered here, and I’m looking forward to learning much from the whole thing and hopefully I’ll have a nice picture for my gallery at the end!

Regards.

Andrew.

Hi all.

OK, after much thinking I got 5 mins to do some sketches, very rough but this is how I develop my ideas I’m afriad! I’ll work on some cleaner sketches later today and try and get the perspective down.

My concept is set on the ground, I wanted to stay away from a space battle, and I want to portray a lasrge ground assault on a futuristic city which has expanded beyond it’s original dome. I’d like to get across the feeling of fear and so want to have civilians running toward camera as troops move toward the city. I’m playing with various camera angles, a monorail and various vehicels for the attacking army. Lots to do, so little time!

Since I dont have access to my markers at work, but I do have access to Maya, I thought I’d render out these test pieces to see how my idea would look. I prefer the single-point perspective shot, the 2nd one, but others prefer the shot from under the monorail tracks.

I’d be interested to see what everyone thinks.

Andrew.

LOOKS JUST GREAT!!!
i like it!
got for it!

and do not forget to have fun;)!

#8

nice nice…
i like the third pic …under the monorails, as its claustrophobic and heavy and dark
next i like the fourth pic because i like the tilted angle
first pic there is nothing threatening and second pic, my eyes are drawn only to one point they do not go around the pic. Its a marvellous start! wish i could do that…

#9

The third pic is nice and the claustrophobic feeling is there, but there isn’t much room for ‘an event’. The second or last one are beter suitable for placing action into the scene.

(oh… and I am still not sure if I should join in.)

#10

Waiting to see it finished.

good luck with it.

u utter git, I have done one stick man drawing since i spoke to you, i like the ruff method tho, maybe I worry too much what it should look like.

Nice work tho m8, will have to get my skates on.

Hi.

OK, since my last post I’ve done literally 15 mins work, and this is it. I’m going to spend the weekend (if I don’t have to move more stuff from my old ouse to this one) working on the environment whslt I get the concepts for the vehicles done. These are for a troop supply ship. My idea is to take the USA’s Huey or the RAF’s Chinook, sit the pilot in the belly so he/she has excellent ground visibilty and have it jet powered by four directional jets. Maybe 6, not sure yet.

As for sketching Westie, I find the looser the better, don’t think about it just do it. The sketches are just to make shapes come onto the paper that I may not have though of. You don’t have to show them to anyone if you don’t have too, so they don’t need to be great. They are just there to develop ideas.

Best.

Andrew.

EDIT/UPDATE: After a bit of a think, I’ve decided to drastically alter the position of the amera, and the city itself. It lacked that awe inspiring view, the only thing I’m concerned with is that the pictur in m head is quite close to a real event we are all very familiar with. I don’t want anybody to think I just ripped my idea from newspaper pictures etc, and always don’t want to cause upset to anybody. I’ll post skeches and tests and see what response I get, although if it carries on like this (no response at all really) nobody will see it so it wont matter eh!

Welcome along Andrew.
I like what and how you`ve donne from the start.
I like the fourth monorail sketch for the perspective view.
Definitely looking fwd to your work to see and learn more.
Keep it up!

#14

Hi!

I like the fourth POV… it’s more dramatic and less claustrophobic. I also like the concept.

I really like the ‘micro-doodle’ sketches. They are so simple, but do show a shape.

Also take a look at some Soviet Helicopters, they had some nice designs too.

Keep up the good work!

Hi.

Been thinking also about the ground vehicles. I know that I need at least two types, the first is this one. It’s a heavily armoured Bulldozer/Troop carrier. The basic idea is that it forces it’s way through any obstacles, such as walls, then raises the dozer blade to give the troops cover as they emerge from a door at the front, behind where the blade was. The can also fire throught he small holes in the blade as it’s advancing.

I prefer the top one.

Andrew.
