just did this to resize from the recommended 3000 pixels back to the 1024 allowed here in order to see a better idea of lay out and what i coudl handle as far as resampling the princess/guardians in contrast to the foreground guard… i think this could turn out nice now…

tho i still have as yet to figure out the major background elements… still i suppose i’ll continue to flesh out the major details of everything…

note that the arrangement i have there of everyone is CERTAINLY NOT how i want it in the end… i just did it like that to get an idea of where i was going to place various elements…

i’d like the two left guys to be closer to each other, the princess in the centre and the guy on the right, to the right of foregrounder’s wing…

Hi Patrick,

Just checking in to see how youve progressed. I definitely like the guy in the immediate foreground. It gives the image a lot more depth. I think it would look great if the princess was directly behind him along with the other guards on the side and have a viewable half circle of enemies in the background . That would leave you with limitless possibilities for the far background. Excellent work and Im glad youre sticking with it. Everything looks great so far so keep it coming!

as per Mecha Hate Chimps [MHC] suggestion i’ve upped the value of ms.fayefaye princess… [mb i’ll name her that after Ed’s name for Faye in Cowboy Bebop]

i think i’ve settled on where i want HER… now the rest is up to settling on the rest of the boys as it were… i may just go with 2 o’ the background boys, and nix the one with the “redalert stop here pose”…

but i think for now i’ll stop playing with the image organizationally and settle on tightening up the two main elements of Princess Faye Faye and the foreground guard… higher detail on centre of head, and clean up main elements…

What about putting the front guy out of the center of format… more to the left or to the right. Just to make a better composition?

Ninja: I am slowly taking up your recommendation.

Explaination:

to tell you the truth, for the last little while i hit a wall… and forgot to listen to my own rule of never overworking a particular sketch.

One thing i discovered while working on machine flesh is that the moment you STOP moving quickly on your PC is the moment you’ve lost out… and you have to realize working something too much is in fact like engaging in necromancy… you might come out with a product but it’ll be more a zombie than anything else… So really i discovered that the cardinal golden rule is to STOP work on a sketch in your PC the moment you feel you’ve stopped making progress… i mean of course its always possible to recover something, but unless you can maintain that momentum, give it up… its faster to make a new sketch w/ colour than it is to try and revive a corpse…

anyway that said i’m going to post soon with a bunch of updates…

Hey I like what I am seeing. I have not even posted a single thing yet and many peopel are busy with heads down.
Looks like a fun and cool story. Like the style and robots and kickass princess’s are always cool.
Maybe the princess can be leaning on a robot or even sitting on top of one, chilled out and looking cool and in control. I would like to see that rather than just a stand alone composistion.

But will check back regular to see cos this is interesting stuff.

to tell you the truth i’ve already started changing the way she looks with a new composition… i mean as i was explaining before, i find the process on line art, to scan to colour has increased as far as speed… so on the one hand while it affords me the luxury to being able to work quickly, it also has prevented me from wanting to post with an incomplete colour treatment… i’m really happy with the way its looking, but i’ve in fact only had little spurts of 1/2 an hour if i’m lucky when i get back from work… i’ve been a bit busy lately so its unfortunate [or fortunate depending on how you see it] in that if i’ve felt inspired or awake enough to work, i’ve had very little time

all that said tho… when i have done something its been quality as far as how i felt about it…

anyway… be patient… [ha you have me feeling guilty now]… btw i like your dice girl… you should work her more… its photoshop, save another version n’ detail it out with multiply, colour dodge, or whatever brushes you enjoy :smiley: to see how you feel about it…

The new princess lineart might be a bit more fleshed out, but I personally prefered the angle of the face on the other version. It just added a nice touch of variety to a piece with alot of symmetrical shapes.

Great sketch but a quite messy coloring. I suggest u to use some more saturated colors, and dont make such a great contrast betwen lights and shadows… But this could be just a step in the process so im sure it will be much better at the end! :slight_smile: cheerz

Just looking at your latest sketches gave me an idea. You know those pictures you see of women in body paint? They are basically naked but have funky outfits or pictures painted on them so they look clothed. You could do something similar with your little lady. Perhaps have a galactic scene painted on her body. Then again I just realised thats a crap idea and I spent 30 seconds of my life typing this out. Oh well. I think that means its time for sleeeeeeeeep!

ok. i admit it. i’ve been bad.

i got sick… had the flu for a week and that completely destroyed my momentum… that + the new world of war craft… and work of course. in between all three of those, thats my excuse

in the interim however i have been working out different things. I think i may have been beating a dead horse with the original princess but since i’ve come up with this and its been moving more than relatively quickly i think i will run with this…

sigh

i feel horrible.

oh well
