Most science fiction shows the colonization of space as some bold endevour by an entire species to conquer the unknown. As we know from our own history, from the colonization of North America, that is simply not the case. The new world was transformed by families, who had the courage to leave their lives behind to journey into the unknown. This is how space will be colonized. Not by a government or corporation, but by a handful of families who will pack their entire lives into a tin can, and rocket themselves off into the abyss.

Hey,

I really love your description! I believe that if we ever do, than you are correct! I like the look of the teddy bear up against the window and wonder if you are going to have any reflection. Actually was wondering if you thought of have a little girl in the picture too and maybe play with the reflection of the window to show her loved ones off picture. That 'll be a total knockout! Too add to the family idea you could add a space station so the audience would think that they are colonizing. It has alot of potential, Can’t wait to see where you take this!

I had many of those ideas myself. I’ll definitely have a reflection in the window (of the monitor, etc., as well as the bear.) I’ll likely put a planet outside the window. I had thought about adding people to the image but decided not to for two reasons: One, my character drawing skills leave much to be desired, and Two, I am trying to create a sombre, almost lonely mood for the image. I felt that people would destroy that effect. I am, however, considering adding a photograph of a family in a frame on the table.

Got tied up by work and GTA: SA  Hope to have something new up soon.

looking good so far! I always have a soft spot for teddies… small items like teddy/hairclips/various toys would add in a nice touch to the mood better than people, I think

My friends are all raving about GTA:SA, but I’m waiting for the pc version to come out before I get it cos I dont own a game console … sigh havent played a good game in ages:wip:

Like the idea of the viewport showing the vastness of space, and the teddybear there.
Only I think you should up the viewport and downsize the teddy.

Can’t wait to see some progression on this one

#8

Another sketch of same concept. Followed MatsM’s advice before I even read his post!

#9

I’m getting my new comp shortly, so I’ll be able to do more colour work in a little bit. (AthlonXP 1700+ doesn’t quite cut it for Photoshop :))

#10

a very nice improvement on the teddy and overall layout… keep it up

#11

What a great idea!

I guess the composition could be a bit more dynamic, but I’m not too sure about that suggestion because sweeping camera angles wouldn’t fit the mood of the concept. Of course, maybe you could move an element (like the teddy) closer to the viewer… and it’d be so sweet to see stuff floating around in zero-g.

i run just fine on a 997 intel.

this will be interesting. its a very original approach, but im just unsure as to how you are going to deliver punch with this piece. keep it going!

#13

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ve been without an internet connection for the last little while. This is the same image as before, only with a touch of colour.

#14

I apologize for submitting this image again, but I just realized I had originally submitted it as just a Concept Sketch, instead of Line Art, which was my intention.

#15

More variety in colour, added some shadowing.

#16

Got rid of the sketch lines, smoothed the edges, and started shading on the bear.
