Grand Space Opera 2D Entry: Branko Bistrovic

#21

OOoooh yeah baby, feels so good to get back into this! Alright, I’m playing with some color variation. Ignore the color of the back head/hornes/hair/excrements…whatever! I’m more focused on the body color. This blue seems alright, I might go for darker, depends on the weight of the background. Seeing as how it is space, it’ll probably be very dark/black, so i don’t want his whole body to make too much impact, it’ll be harder to bring attention to the details, and it might actualy overwhelm them…hmmm, I’ll see. Now that I’ve got my concept down, I can go check out the other threads. Promised myself I’d refrain from doing so until now, just so it wouldn’t influence my thought proccess… nyah, makes sense on paper.

more to come! Too tired right now… color variations limitless… head blurring out… (rasdasa wobbles in colored stuppor) Pink appears around him…snorrrr.

So far this is my favourite one. I\\\'m hoping to outline it with lighter strands of sinew, to better express the muscle composition. only problem is that I was hoping to add some dark violetBlue to the space, and if i do so he might blend a little too much with it… It might work to my benefit but maybe not… shrug

#24

This is my second favourit, and it’s a VERY close second…
I like the raw energy of the hue, but it might contrast too much with energy of the space debree/nebula/planets/suns/ETC, that I’m hoping to whip in…

#25

Nyah… sort of subdued… and lame… but puke gold! You know, god like. I tried for a gold-gold but it was much too intense for the background.

#26

Sweet sulptry purple… caresser of bodices and arched backs. You seductor of fine linen and even finer physics…no.

-rasdasa

#27

Nice start… like your sketching style. waiting for more updates.

#28

K, I’ve decided either on the blue…

Put some lines on him to give form, obviously.

#29

…and this dark red. The blue speaks more to me, but it would be the typical color of choice, but the red has a sort of impactual statement… like…hey, I’m red…Sort of like satan, except what F*@& am I?!

Another interesting thread… all those colors hmmm… the red one is too much human-like, just without skin, so there could be some missunderstandings with the scale. So Im for the blue one at this moment. Or maybe white or black. That would be somehow logically coz in space u dont need any color at all… so it would give more reality feeling to that character… or maybe not  What the hack do I know… just thinking and writing everything down. Maybe it would help  Good luck!

#31

Thanks ninja, I appreciate the Crits. I’m feeling the same as you, Blue seems the most appealing. i tried black and white but it just melded in way too much with the background. I was more than just his size and outline to grab attention. Tough choices grin

Quick block-in to see the composition. The spaceships will be almost nestled within the fat grasp. Bigger ones, smaller ones, they’ll be lots of one’s.
I’ll have to throw in a neubla on the bottom right to give some balance… never done a nebula before… nyah shrug let’s see what happens. I think I’ll attempt one without refrence first, to see if i can give it a stylistic feel, and then when I realize how stupid an idea that really is I’ll get me-self some refrence… but for now I fly solo!
In other news, I’ve been playing with some displacement maps through Zbrush and Maya. That’s right, I’ve whored up on the Z-waggon, and so far I’m really sucking it up(screwing up, I mean). I can render the test runs that you get off the sites, but when i attempt to build my own test and detail it, all I end up testing is my bloody patience! Well, that and the strength of scalp…
Anyways, be back soon.

#33

Alright, so i did some work in the last couple of days. First some color eye tests.

Zoom!

#34

Purple Nurple. More demanding, more …enigmatic.

#35

Had to stop cropping in, I wasn\'t getting the full impact of the eyes like that. It might seem pointless to some, but the eyes are usualy a very important centre of balance, conviction, and relation between observer and subject.
Atleast that\'s how I feel.

#36

Mmmmm, yup. And the trivialties don’t end here either.

#37

Wow, there is a much stronger impact now that i’ve zoomed out. So far thwe ark violet carries the most promise, but we’ll see. The green is ugly, but I need to share the ugly with the not so ugly.

#38

Just to see how the complimentary color of blue would stack… nah, pleaseing, but too contrived. besides, I don’t want too pleasing.

#39

Finaly, just working a bit with value of thee violet. I think I might go with that, but am just not sure even now.

#40

K, so I then went on to hair/hornes/headpieces/excrements… whatever the heck you want to call it!. Did a few different styles of course. But these appealed to me the most.
