Congratulations on the new job Justin.
I too reciently got a position as a lead animator. It’s the new digital department for a small design company, so it may or not be the same as what you’ll go through…But if it is, then prepeare to…
- Take a few blows from your animators…
…Your animators will be sweet as pie and never address you as a superior, Instead some of them might challenge you to a game of “Let’s see who the true bad ass is here”…I found that one fun, although it left a pissy smell in the air enduring, and it’s healthy for the project too. Only thing is you have to know how good they are at what they are doing and trust they can have it done before the deadline. And have a back up plan just incase something really goes wrong.
…Again if your job has the same simularity, you will be considered the source of all things good and bad. For the making of our first project, Iv’e learned that it is a good idea to keep detailed postings to the director and the boss, on the progress of the work.
These are just a few things i’ve learned from my recient exsperiences. In the end you’ll develop a freindship with everyone you work with. And yes it is a beautiful job.
