I am very new to the cg industry and have been working through some online tutorials, not yet sure which area interests me the most however i was wondering do you think books are a better way to study than online tuts? If so i was thinking do you know any good books on, character modelling and concept art, matte painting, lighting, life drawing (anatomy) and enviroment.
Thanks Guys
What do you think of these books?

Good books to help one progress in CG
The software manual is the only thing you need to learn any software package.
When I watch a tutorial online.I take out a notebook and write down all the tools that were used, then I look at my manual and start playing with it so I understand it better.Same goes with books,it does not matter what exercises you do in any book or video tutorial,if you don’t know how the tools function ,you’re going to end up hitting a brick wall. The best method is just observational learning with as much different tutorials or books as possible. Focus on one subject at a time.If you decide you wonna make a person in 3d,then spend hours watching how to model a human+drawing human anatomy, being with no texture/rigging involved .This way you don’t full yourself with information overload.
The key is problem solving and enjoying your art. When you make buying books or finishing tutorials a priority ,then you become a rigid artist and the art becomes a chore.
