Glow based on Particle age?

#1

Hey all, been trying to do an effect where I have a mass of particles blinking on and growing to full size - I’m using a pflow with an instanced object (just a simple hexagon), and this generates properly - but when I go to place a glow using the particle age and material id, it glows for that material id and then promptly flicks off - instead of a nice fade.

So to visualise - particle ‘blinks’ on with a glow, then the glow fades over 10 frames or so… but at the moment, particle ‘blinks’ on, then glow abruptly dissapears after 10 frames.

Any thoughts?

have a look at the particle age map in the help

apply that procedural map to the opacity slot of your material to have a nicer fade over time.

kind regards,
Anselm

Also note that in order for the Particle Age map to work, you need a Delete operator in the event the material is applied to, or else it will assume the particle’s lifespan is infinite and its age is therefore constantly 0%.
