Getting rid of seams between terrains using srtm data.

#1

I am trying to produce a flyover of a large area using SRTM data for terrain modelling and geo referenced satellite images for colour textures.

As the area is quite large I think the way to achive this is using multiple terrain objects. I cannot seem to find a way to produce seamless transitions between each of the terrains.

When rendered there is always a visible edge ( height difference) between the terrains. When i render using the same technique in maya there is no visible edge.

Here is a link to the maya mental ray render. two square nurbs planes side by side. Wide render but I assure you there is no visible seam.

Here is the same data, loaded directly via dem import into vue6.5
Three views of visible seam.

All scaling/ translates same for both terrains

Here is the vue file and the dem data.

I have also tried applying as a Picture in the terrain editor but get the same results. Here are the tif files I tried.

I need to keep the terrains seperate as the colour maps that go onto each are 4k square.

Beginning to think is is not possible

Any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

on first glance, it looks like a filtering issue. And or, perhaps vue’s calculation of normals on the edge of a terrain is less than stellar… just grasping at straws, but, have you tried baking the terrains into polys?
