Getting GOZ to Work

#1

Is there some kind of voodoo involved in getting GOZ to work with Maya?

I have never gotten GOZ installed and working smoothly(Never smoothly actually) with any version without some kind of trickeration involving changing permissions and/or moving files around. Yet I rarely see others having such issues.

From what I understand:

  1. Shutdown Maya
  2. Open ZB and click Goz
  3. Follow the prompts and install the necessary files for Maya
  4. Open Maya and there should be a new Goz shelf, which there is, but the icon is missing.
  5. If this doesn’t work then try to force reinstall

At this point if I try to go from ZB to Maya, it looks like its successful but no mesh ever makes it to Maya. And of course with no shelf icon in Maya, I can’t Goz anything to ZB.

The once or twice I got it to work was because I changed permissions of the files/directories within the shared user folder and moved scripts around. It seems like a lot of work to get this working. And when I did get it to work for me, I would have errors at some point that eventually rendered Goz useless.

I really want Goz to be a stable and reliable element of my workflow. What am I missing?

The issue seems to revolve around permissions. I use OS X as a standard user but when logged in as an admin it seems to work fine. But as soon as I log back into my usual standard account, I cannot use goz.

I updated the permissions of the pixologic and maya folders in the users/shared directory to allow read/write by me and apply to enclosed items, but it still doesn’t to work. I’ve forced re-installs along the way as well.

From what I’ve read, ZB only installs files in the users/shared directory. But upon installing goz to maya, it requires admin rights to proceed, so I know its modifying elsewhere, I just can’t out where.
