General questions about painting

Hi.
I want to learn painting. First without colors, only some sketches.

I have started first to paint a head in ps. I use as background the orignal picture to get it easier.
Here are my first results.

But how i make them better? Do you outline shadows ore color them?
Must i paint all the outlines like on the nose or must i delete some to get a better result?

What do you think is the best way to understand how i must draw a face to get a nice look?

Have you looked at the sticky thread on tutorials? I think you should start there and start from the ground up and learn the basics first.
