oooo~nice work wonder!![]()
Gamecharacter: Hwoarang, Blake Seow (3D)
Dude when I saw that your model was only 6k polys, my jaw literally dropped!
i’m sure the high resolution textures helped most of all, but still, it looks so amazing for such a low polycount!
Are these shots renders with antialiasing off, or are they raw 3dsmax screenshots?
I like this version better than the high poly version. looks way more like an asian character. its just so game arty. and your facial poses, especially the rice one are great
i like your textures.
I actually liked him better with his cowboypants and boots, but thats taste… His shoulder and arm muscles look a bit off, specially the part between bicep and tricep. Also, I’d make his legs much bigger and stronger, since he’s mostly a kicker…
Hi,
great work but,
i notice alot of people when doing low poly game characters paint in the reflection and the specularity in the colour maps,
now, if its just a show cease model you can do whatever you like, but just for the info this could never fly if it was a real game model
The painted in reflections and specualrity died of, and now to my knowlage no one uses it any more, cos all the game engines and all graphic cards can do reall specularity…
someone correct me if im wrong…
anyways, cool work!

Wow,I never thought will get so many replys, really thanx for all replys again!
SPIDER2544:
Yes,you are right, for 512*512 face texture I guess it will be better draw a whole face texture instade half now:)

I’m afried I don’t agree with your point.for a game model without normal map,as the polycount is not super high, the model can’t includ too much details.Although we have specluar map,but the highlights still wont look very good without colour map supported.I think If you paint some small highlighting detail on colour map, when the real highlighting from specluar map overlay on it,it will looks better. Here I rendered a short animation to show the highlighting effect:) here it is:

Its is very good, only crits are the muscles on the arm, should not be that exagerated and the hair could look like more the original concept, besides that you did a great, great work!
Congratulations!
Those of us on macs can’t view your video – can you change the codec to DivX or Mpeg or something more universal?
I think from that standpoint you’ve been successful. The original Hwoarang does, now that I think about it, look Japanese.
I think that the lack of “Hwoarang” factor people are talking about comes down to three things:
- Hair. Hwoarang in the game has more of a dragonball kind of thing going for him. Your version’s hair seems shorter and more up than back.
- Musculature and facial fullness. Your character is a lot skinnier and this is most apparent in his face. The distance between his cheekbones is also a lot smaller than the original. However, changing these things could negate your efforts to give him a different kind of face, and his size is more normal than the original. I like it the way it is.
- Prettiness. Hwoarang is a pretty boy, while yours looks more natural, more … I dunno, masculine? I don’t know if you want to change that, either.
You know I clicked on the image because I thought he was a character from the FF7: Advent Children movie. ^-^ But I like what you’ve done and I hope you show us what becomes of this model in the future.
Incidentally, I agree that the arms are a bit strange. Shape-wise they’re perfectly toned, but the shading in your color map makes them look wildly toned. If you take the shading down, smooth out the coloring, I think people will like the arms better.
great character… i the arm isnt that bad, but he is korean right…head shape slightly altered but this is magnifiq
Impressive work.
The detail in everything here came out wonderfully.
I am specially a fan of his arms. The detail in the muscle, the veins.
Great job.
Truely a 5 star job
Looks like a fairly good interpretation of the xcloud tutorial, but it looks focused more on the tutor than the original character, such as facial structure and texturing choices.
Is this an underhanded assualt- or is there truth in this statement? In other words- is there a tutorial out there that can help an artist create work as stunning as this? My guess is no- but if this isn’t just hating- man I’d love to see that tutorial GradiusCancer… because it would be great for me to study. I promise that I’ll apologise for ever doubting you.
Craig
oops, didn’t mean to sound underhanded. It’s a nice model and texture. I just see elements of character design, such as underlying bone structure from the ref that could be applied to this character which would take it farther from the facial features of the tutorial character. That’s why I thought it was based on the tut.
Amazing work mate, this makes me want to play Tekken 5 too, good work on the facial animation
have a nice day people
That tutorial is all in Korean…Is there an English version? Or has someone translated it to English?
I looked at the provided tutorial, but i fail to see where any of the underlying bones textures fit in.
Notice that since xcloud decided to make a tutorial for the general public, he expected that people would follow his lead and mimic his aproch when making his tutorial. Just a thought.
kattkieru:
I believe and thanx for your seriously read.In fact, while I done him, I also recalled someone from him, that one is the guy from FFX movie you said.I think for the hair type and face style of my version is really more like that guy.
Kahlan Amnell:
I’m so happy you like my work:) And his arm, haha. but frankly speaking,I think the arm is still good when looking from back, but when looking from front, the muscles looks a little strange.I’m working on fix it.
GradiusCancer:
Yes,this style come from Xcloud, but this character is not come from there. In fact,I’ve seen his work about 3 or 4 months ago,and I was shock by that painting style. Then I decided to learn that style.
Here is my old styles:
http://wonder3d2.unix71.cn4e.com/work/m3.htm
http://wonder3d2.unix71.cn4e.com/work/m7.htm
And this is my first character leaning from his style. This one you could say it’s followed his tutorial, and it really is:
http://wonder3d2.unix71.cn4e.com/work/m5.htm
Then this is the second one,my own design,I become to understand this style but not only follow the tutorial:
http://wonder3d2.unix71.cn4e.com/work/m6.htm
Hwoarang is the last one,the body and the face I swear nothing is from the underlying bones of the tutorial.I’ve post my texture, you could check if there is anything same as his tutorial textures.
I’m sorry if my words looks like argued, and thanx for reply:)
lorez:
sorry I forgot post wires,here they r:

Man it looks great! and whoever posted that link to the xcloud tutorial, thank you! I love having like 50 million references and this makes it 50 million and 1!
Anyways, I love the style, and I love the talent Koreans (Guild wars is nice!) seem to have with 3d modeling, its inspiring!
