I hope you´re not refering to the first picture
Because the yellow areas are just untextured.
I´ll have a look at the arms though.
Game Icons - character - Ivars
There´s a general problem with dark textures, in that they don´t recive much of the dynamic lighting. Since they can only be as bright as the texture itself.
verry beautiful and smooth skin you’ve got Ivars. nice
how did you come up with the ‘matching the edge of seperated faces?’
Hehe, don´t ask
That´s just alot of time in photoshop, trying to get it to match. It´s a pain really.
Ivars,
Truly amazing stuff! I love the concept all the way to the last post. Can you walk me through your process of modeling it looks as if it comes with such ease to you. I am trying to learn Max right now and trying to understand the best way to model. Any help would be great.

I´ll give it a shot
I work with the symetrty modifier so that I won´t have to model both sides. I use mainly edge-extrusion when I model.
Here´s a lame reconstruction I made in photoshop:
- I start with a box for the head, just creating a rough silhouette.
- Then I add enough edges to give the head some depth and details. I extrude the edges on his neck to the right creating his shoulder.
- Then I extrude edges to create chest and back.
- I extrude some more edges to form the side of his body, leaving a hole for the arm.
- In the same way, I connect back and front, creating a crotch and leaving a hole for the leg.
- Then I extrude the edges for arms and legs, and shape them in to that.

Well, I guess that made absolutly no sense at all
Thanks for listening, anyway.
that made sense to me, or maybe that’s becuase that’s how I model too. I have a quick question for you though, do you always start with the head when modeling?
Most of the times I do. Because I find it to be the hardest, and i don´t want to save that for last. But some times i start with the torso…
Just a little update, so you know I haven´t jsut been sleeping all weekend.
I´ll work a little more later, but now: FOOD

looking friggin awesome
im also starting off in max and would love to find out details of you and other artists go about creating such great models
what you have explained is helpful
ive seen many max tutorials, but some like to assume you know a lot already - this doesnt help me
does this forum have a tutorial section? tutes written by you guys?
Ivars - You da man. Those diagrams were awesome and I appreciate you taking the time to do them. One question still lies in my head. When you say that you just add more edges how do you do that?
Thanks man :applause:
Looking great Ivars…tho i got to tell you i’m finding the non-bump mapped version a lot more attractive to look at, its less busy and a lot more toonish without.
Dave
Very nice model and texture work so far. The fur might stretch a bit too much though and perhaps it could use a bit more contrast. Also, if you could make som variations bestween the bump and the color in the fur, it might help a bit. It looks very much like you’ve ‘just’ used the color as a greyscale bump. Some adjustments with curves in the bump might help there.
The color of the shirt might be a bit off. Red and green is a bad combination
Perhaps a brown shirt would fit better.
Other than that I think this is really great! I’m looking forward to see how the fur on the tale will look.
Double Damn!
I’d murder someone to see this model in q3 or something.
The textures are top notch, I especially like the head. Keep up the great work :applause:
Wow, thank you all for your kind words! And also some good tips.
frakke: I just might change some colorschemes, and see what I can come up with.
pica$$0: I use mostly the connect edge command, and the cut tool. Trying to keep some nice edgeloops around the mouth and eye. That will be usefull for good deformations.
Now I´m gonna finsh this texture, and move on to rigging. I´ll wait with the bump- and specmaps.
wow… Model is nice and clean, the textures are amazing. it really take some skills to make a good real time character!
really nice work, Ivars!
Here is a update. I still need to tweak the skinning, and the texture isn´t complete yet…
But I just wanted to play arouond with the rig.

and here´s the texture in it´s current form:

well done Ivar.
