Game Art Mini Challenge #2 - Gate to a Tomb

#1

hey,

this challenge sounds like fun. and it takes exactly the right time… a few days.

ok here’s the start. gonna start texturing…
and for the style… well i don’t know, yet. but i think it will be kind of semi-realistic.

#2

hey!!

looks cool so far.
no crits at the minute, apart from…does it need to be mirrored. you still have that edge running down the middle that isn’t really doing anything. (unless it’s for better lighting)

waiting for a textured version now.

cheers!!

#3

hey, thx for the reply.
i thought about this edge, too. but i thought i need it for breaking the straight lines.
maybe i will change this if i need the polys elswhere.
oh, btw modeling time is about 3 h so far and software is, of course, maya.
triangle count is 598.
oh, and ROB_BEDDALL: your demongate looks cool.

#4

ok i changed some things:
made the stairs more organic, asymmetric.
and i painted the vertices for the light-fake.
i deleted the small stones because i found a better way to use them.
you will see in the next update

#5

ok, update: the textures.

and the textured, unlit model

as i said in the last post i removed some polys.
i used them (10 planes ~ 20 tris) to fake volumefog, hehe
uh, and btw, it’s exactly 600 triangles now.

#6

hey!!

looks well cool.
i wa thinking about trying to fake some fog too.

the only crit i can see with this is that for the torch…in game it would have to animated which would require extra textures. ( i assume) but i see alot of people putting torches iin so i’m not sure.
but you could do a tiny little flame thing and say it would be part a particle system. ( but then i guess that would take the poly count up hmmm)

anyway… great looking model.
