Game Art Competition #2 Rules

#21

Wanzai,

I’ve decided that I will not be able to enter this contest, but I will definitely be able to judge. So if you’d like, please put me down for it.

I’d love to see this keep going, so I’m planning on scheduling time so that I’ll be able to enter the next comp. Good luck to everyone who’s making a go for it!

Hi, im new here, and plan on entering the comp just havent posted my work yet… scanner is down :annoyed: I know a friend is working on a comp piece too (hes already submitted) so this comps alive and well! VERY COOL idea for a competition too! not my normal subject to work with, I find it very challenging.

Hi,

I was asked by PM if bump maps are allowed. Well, the short answer is no.

The reasons are:

  1. Since this wasn’t clear right from the start, it’s likely that not every participant has this possibility in mind. So for fairness’ sake I’d say no.

  2. Not every engine/plattform supports bump-map (PS2 again…, and certainly not ever game on the PC). It’s simply not as usual and unified as transparency

  3. I think you have enough triangles to define some details.

I should have cleared this up at the first place, sorry for any incovenience.

OK, Sanhueza, you’re on my list!

wanzai, when is the deadline? im a little confused… heres your quote from the rules post

(The contest begins as soon as you read this post. The deadline is January 31st 2003, 12 midnight CET. That means 11 PM, GMT or February 1st 2003 at 4 AM, CET (I hope this “calculation” is right… better check out your time yourself Feel free to correct me)

you mean feb 1st 12am GMT right? you say jan 31st 12 midnight CET and feb 1st 4am CET in your rules post… which is 2 different times…

i looked up CET time (central europe time) and its advanced one hour past 0 time or GMT time. so shouldnt the contest end on 12midnight feb 1st GMT? which is 1am feb 1st CET?

thanks in advance for clarification… ill be working to the last minute and need to know

How about expanding the time till sunday evening? If I had the Weekend free, I could do much much more work on textures. I think also the other guys could use some extra time to polish things out… pretty please

@MrHappyPants
I knew I made some mistake there.

OK, what the hell, let’s expand it to Sunday. This means that the deadline is midnight from Sunday to Monday, in GMT… “the zero time”. Please check out your corresponding local time yourself.

I’ll create the submission thread shortly and set my time to GMT. Every submission post not dated February 2nd at the latest would be invalid.

I hope I’m doing you’ll a favor instead of being unfair to those of you who would’ve make it in time anyway.

I’m feeling sorry for not being able to pay full attention on this contest as I’m abroad now. But I’ll try not to let this end discontented like it did to me last time.

YAY!!! :bounce:

thanks wanzai! I think everyone will benefit and the submissions will be stronger

Hey guys sorry about not being here for the really big shew. I just got tied up with a new job. I started to design a vehicle, but it became very clear that I wouldn’t have time to work on it. I really wanna do the next challenge, so I hope it goes on.

Keep up the good work.

Wanzai,

I am a little confused about the point system for judging. What do you mean by each judge has “1x5, 1x3, and 1x1 points”? Do you mean “1.5, 1.3, and 1.1” points? Or do you mean that each judge can award one entry 5 points, another entry 3 points, and a third entry 1 point? Or something totally different? Me no think gud sometime…

Oh, and zainlars, I definitely want to keep this going too, so I’ll most likely join in on the next comp. Peace,
