Thanks for the reply. I didn’t really set out to make a squirrel at first, but kind of ended up doing one because of some doodles I did that looked like squirrels. Then I realized he’s a bit similar to Conker, but that doesn’t really bother me. I wish I could get that nice fur effect they have on Conker. I’m going to have some alpha channels on multiple planes on the top of his helmet, which should have a nice furry effect. I hope… :hmm: I’ve never tried it before.
Well, what package are you using? Maybe I can try to help you…although I use Lightwave

Thanks Lotekk. I did plan the character for a while and am feeling really inspired at the moment, so that always helps me model really fast. Oh yeah… I drank Pepsi all day… :eek: UV mapping’s going to take me the time, I’ve hardly done any. I’ll get better though. As for the design, I found an old animation book I think my Grandma gave me when I was 9 or something, and found a really cute squirrel character in there. It had like 20 different angles and expressions, so I largely based my character on that. Then I just google searched roman armor, and improvised a bit.
HaloAnimator: I’m using Max 5. Thanks for the offer to help, but I’m about 99% sure it’ll work nicely. I’ve thought about it a lot, and was really careful when setting it up. Although I’ve never tried it before…
Anyway, I’m off to bed! I’ve got a big day of sitting tomorrow. I want to be all rested up for that.

The caracter is very appealing.
But perhaps ypu could use some more polys on the tail. I see you have a lot of polys on his shoese. You could perhaps have fewer there instead.

Thanks for the comments guys. I just started texturing using mainly photos, scans for the leather, and some painted fur. I’m not sure I’m happy with the fur colour, but I’ll see how it works out with lighter fur under his belly. His plumage thingy at the top needs work, so ignore that. c&c welcome.
Nice, the eyes look very cute. It seems like he’s losing his cartoony look slightly though but you’ve only just started so I’ll leave you to it.
Looking good this far! As you just begun its hard to say anything, but I think you could go for a more cartoonish colouring. Making the plumage thingie more red and the fur more brighly orange and so on. But it probably will look good any way

Time for a break. Painting all of that fur is hard on my hands… Anyway, I still have quite a ways to go. I have to paint the tail, and some armor, and do lots of cleaning up, and little details.
I also put some blood on the sword to give him a sort of “I’m cute, but don’t mess with me look”
Isabelle: You were definately right about making the plumage thingy red. Do you think he looks more cartoony now? It’s kinda what I’m shooting for. Not too cartoon like though.

Yes, I think he look a litle more cartoonish, and very nice. The red color looks good. And the eye colour. And its always nice with bloody swords! I mean, hey, are we mean or not? I say we are. More bloody swords for the people!

I’ve put quite a bit more work into the texture, but I still haven’t come up with something I’m happy with for the helmet. The tail needs more work as well. Lots more finishing touches, then on to rigging. Anyway, I’m off to look at the competition

Dacheese: He’s definately the runt of the competition as far as I’ve seen, but when I get him into UT2004 (hopefully) I’ll have him blowing the crap out of some much more formidable creatures.

The black netting on the helmet, Im alittle more unsure about. But in all , its coming along nicely!

I was browsing through images of animals today looking for my own idea for the contest. I found a cute picture of a squirrel and thought, “Wow, it would be great if someone would make a squirrel”, among many other creatures I haven’t seen yet. I nearly overlooked this entry. It’s very cool. Excellent idea, and the texture is coming along nicely. Keep it up.
