Game Art Comp 9: Nightingale, CrimeanWar Nurse

Oh god! Im been reduced to cute! Not fabulous, not cool, not magnificently beautiful. But cute!

tragic face

(jokes aside…i guess she is a little on the cute, childrensbook side…)

Trying out different hands…

#20

Good work so far!

I like the hands on the left better. They look more like feathers, and have more style. I’d consider making that area slightly bigger though. Proportion-wise (visually, not anatomically) I think the hands, reaching back through the arm could be bigger. Not longer, just wider in the other 2 axes.

BTW, the textures so far look photo-sourced. Is that the direction you’re going with the rest? I think this concept could look really nice with a painterly look to it, like a childrens novel, although if you manage a fairly realistic look, that’d suit it too…

#21

I think I´ll go for a slightly painted style, like watercolour.
But first I want to feel done with the hands…

Here is a small update. I added a poly line beginning at the beak and reaching down to the hands. That gave me tree things:
The face looks better from the front. The arm is rounder and more detailed and the hands got more details. I also added som extra polygonos around the eyes and I keep changing the hands.

#22

Nice work on the face, the eye is looking good too. I agree with Dargon on the hand, but I think the second one could work too. :applause:

#23

I´m done with the hands. And exept for some minor things Im done with modelling. I need to remove some unnecessary polys from under the skirt, and tweek some details, so the mirroring (both halfs is the same) is´nt so obvious.

This is hove the wireframe looks now. perhaps a little to many polys for something this small but it looks good and will deform well!

#24

Here is the image:

#25

I have´nt done much lately.

Im still not pleased with the hands, but Im consentrating on the texture at the moment.
Probably I will make it a little more painted in the end, it looks a little booring at the moment. A cartoonish touch might lighten it all up!?

#26

Your textures are looking great. I agree though that a slight painted, cartoonish look would give your model some more character. I also think the feathers on its hands look more leathery than feathery. Keep it up!

#27

what can I say it’s “apaihto” in greece means pretty much as wonderfull. Well done Isa!
The hands are feathers right nice idea.
Keep up the good work

#28

i really like the work you’ve done so far Isabelle…
yea i also think that a more cartoonish touch would liven it up…
also must agree with dacheese with the “apaihto”…

#29

Exelent concept, This really fits the idea, Cant wait to see you win

#30

Haha…mm thanks "EVIL or maby I should call you “Mr very Nice”?

: )

#31

Looking very nice isabelle. Very cute indeed

I’m looking forward to seeing the total texture.
I have to say I like the second hand you did better then the first one. The second seems more bird like.

And maybe you could do with an edgeloop around the shoulder, it looks like it might deform weird when she lifts her arms.

Great job anyhoo!

#32

After a time of doing other stuff I´ve done some mayor work and have the finish line in reash!

I remodelled the hand to a more humanlike, standard, shape. I´ve added a ribbon. AND I´ve worked on the texture.
Just for you, I took some snapshots and put them together so you can see for yourself. Judge me kindly…

#33

For those of you interested, I have a work-in-progress image of my texture.
Its in scale 1:1 and shows details of the texture as it is now and how it looked earlyer.

I´ve used a lot of colours in the dress.
It may look blue but in the shadows and highligths there are, in the latest version, a lot of other hues. Differnt browns, turqoise, purple, a green…

I also keept the texture quite “ruff” in some places. Its easy to overwork details with all those layers, and infinite nubers of undos, available.
Then you gets something perfect but lifeless and to smooth that screems computer made.
And I want my texture to look vaugly painted and aquarellish. Like a Beatrix Potter illustration. : )

#34

Wow!
Looks excellent! Really nice porportions, superbly painted texture (especially the cloth folds) and a really nice overall look.
Are you a good 2d artist because your cloth texture looks really nice. It looks a bit too painted in my opinion - maybe smooth it off a bit, but as you said above, you wanted a hand painted kinda look.
Great work! Probably the most complete looking entry so far.
Well done!

#35

WOW Isabelle this is truely some beautiful work. I love the concept, very different. best of luck…

#36

Thank you!

Andy H. I dont do much 2d-graphics acctually. But I did start with 3d, and computer graphics because I love to paint and draw. And I still do some work on paper or in clay.
: )
Mindrot: Well I love what I´v seen of your work to. Especially the zoombie. (I´m a lover of horror novells and have a weak spot for the monsters…)

Hi,

I know it might be too late for me to be suggesting modeling ideas since you’re already texturing, but how do you feel about an opening in the back of the dress for the tail to poke out of? it could be a slash running down the middle or something that makes the dress fall over to one side? :hmm:

Great work by the way!!
