Game Art Comp #9: Mantis - Boxer Rebellion Warrior Monk

dunno how quickly this will come about. i’m incredibly sick at the moment & probably might not start right away, but i just wanted to stake my claim.

the animal is a praying mantis & i’m going to stick him in some Chinese warrior/monk garb circa the boxer rebellion (martial artists trying to overthrow the Chinese imperial powers/expel westerners in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s… that should count right?). i just got a book on the topic not too long ago so as i go through it, i’ll apply it to this. judging how i’m feeling tomorrow i’ll have a concept sketch & some reference photos soon.

good luck to everyone. some really nice ideas thus far. it’s going to be a good competition i think

cool idea, i had no idea what a mantis was from the start but now i know :wink:

cool animal, or rather insect, you’ve chosen. it fits the chinese warrior theme perfect!
