The construction / polycount of that white sash thing on his torso will make rigging a living hell!
Nice head, but i think the body still needs more work.
Game Art Comp 9: Bulldog: British Sergeant(1808-1813)
do u think i should ditched the two belts and include them in the texture map then? i’ll see what i can do about the body, looking at it now the legs make him look a bit like he’s trying to have a poo!
he’s down to 3434 tris now. I’ve made some slight changes, he’s now wider, the shoulder pad things have been changed and the chest has been brought out to give him a more dog-like appearance, what do u think?
i’m still not sure what to do about the two belts, if i don’t get a response i’ll just incorporate it into the texture.
I agree with andy, his body could use a far more natural form. Btw what has happened to his knees?
ok, i’ve changed the mesh on his chest and altered his legs, bear in mind that he’s supposed to be standing to attention so his posture shouldn’t be relaxed.

The upper body and arms look loads better - i think all you need to do now is bring the knees in a bit, and youre done. His legs look broken at the moment.
Nice work this far.
Why dont you just make I quick try with the texture, and see if it works to paint the white belts. It prbably will.
: )
Andy- i’ve brought the knees it a bit now, i can kinda see what u mean about the broken legs
isabelle- thanks for the advice, i’ll give the belt a try on the texture map.
thanks for the comments guys, i should hopefully have the begginnings of a texture up in the next couple of days.
does anyone know of any sites where i can get some decent fur and clothes textures and refence pics?
very good job.
Is good to see how the help of others could do alot of defference, mate very good job.
On the next comp i’ll need some good advise 2.
thanks dacheese and aryes.
ok, i’ve uv mapped his body now (i’m gonna do 1 for the body and 1 for the accessories and weapons) this is my first real attempt and texturing something so any advice and crits would be great.
here’s the start of my texturing! i know the creases on the torso look crap at the mo but i’m still experimenting.

Good start considering its your first real attempt at texturing.
If i could give some tips, its that you should tone down the cloth wrinkles, and add more colour into the shadows rather than black. Also, work on the head texture some more - add variations of hair and colour. He looks kinda like a teddy bear right now. Do a google image search for bulldog and use the reference.
Keep it up lad!
Bulldogs have short hair so you would be better off going for a “stubbley hair” look, rather than the “wavey fur” look. Try laying down a solid color layer and then using another layer set to overlay or soft light to add some suggestions of stubble texture and short hair strokes. Then a third layer could be used to develop the soft highlights, wrinkles and shadows to give some volume to the folds of skin on his face. Just a suggestion
Keep up the good work.
Do you have a uv-snapshot?
I think that in texturing, the uvlayout is one of the most important things. And its always interestring to see.
: )
sure thing, here’s the uv layout, it’s just missing the teeth plane which i’ll add in later.

thanks andy. there’s still a couple of problem areas i’m struggling with. in particular the upper chest as u can see from my latest update. any crits?

forgot to post the images! doh!
