Game Art Comp 8: Shredder - TMNT

#21

Thanks guys

I just realized something … Was I supposed to texture only half the model and then flip it over so I have more room on the 1024 x 1024 texture for details etc? … wow im a noob doh

#22

I decided to go ahead because the textures arent going to be symetrical anyways.

I finished unwraping the model and started with the normal map.

My problem is that after I get the normal map (I’m using orb) and stick it in the bump map with Gnormal, my model becomes faceted and really ugly. For now I’m just going to use the Normal map in the bump map slot, but I would really like to figure out the problem. Anyone know how to solve this?

Here’s a picture to better explain :

Looking good - the most complete looking model so far - however, i think his hands and feet are waaaay too long. I should fix them before you proceed any further.
Nice to see your making a tougher shredder, rather than the camp one that was in the original cartoon…

#24

Andy H, :scream::eek::cry: how COULD YOU KNOCK THE OLD SHREDDER!?! ERRRRRR!

Jo|{eR great progress man, as before keep going in full stride dude…

#25

Thanks

Andy H - I tried making both hands and feet a bit smaller, but to me it just didnt look right. I really want this model to look and feel powerful, and when I made the hands and feet smaller I felt it took away from that. Or maybe I’ve just been looking at the model too long heh.

#26

Awesome man. Looks amazing.

#27

thanks  everyone here is motivating me to keep on workin.

I worked on rearranging the uv’s and I got the textures to line up better and I started on the back detail. Just workin on the bump map right now, after Im done Ill start on the diffuse map.

#28

I decided to skip some sleep and start texturing hehe

#29

Looks nice.

#30

thanks :D, I’m having way too much fun with this project heh.

I started rigging… its far from perfect, but I couldnt resist haha.

#31

I went back and changed the textures around. I also got the normal map working (sorta). Ill be back here with updates

#32

post the model with the texture on it with 100 self ilumination (sp?) so we can actually see the texture

also his arms look broken becuse at the elbow the arm beds up and that is not posstble in that position i was going to do a draw over but i got to lasy… ( tho its pob fixed now that it is riged)

#33

hehe, I actually went back and fixed some of the texturing (although its far from being finished) Plus I got the normal map working, but its still not how I like it.

#34

The feet and hands look a little big. otherwise looks cool

#35

is that blue steel i thought maybe you would do the stainless steel version from the good ol days you know the armor he used to see reflections like in the comics when he almost kill don but then decide to hold him for ransom

#36

hehe yea, I figured I’d only follow the reference pics for general color information and armor placement. I really wanted to dirty shredder up and make him look… err well dirty. I worked on the texture a bit this morning, but unfortunately I wont be able to work on him for the next few days. I have alot of other stuff to catch up on. Thanks again for the support

btw i know the seams in the hands really suck… thats on my todo list

And Posed :

#37

Good stuff! You’ve come a long way, man! I think the texture kinda blends, too much, though. Maybe give it some artificial shadow on the armor, for definition. Right now, you can’t really see the different sections of the torso.

#38

I fixed the textures shadowing and overall feel, I also cleaned up all those nasty black lines I was getting around all teh seams. Ended up being my border on the map was too far into the texture… fixed it up pretty easily. Ill try to throw an update up later or tomorrow.

I learned so much from this competition so far its not even funny.

#39

Looking good!
Perhaps you should do something with the the round reth thing on his belt. Im not shore if this "something should be done with texture or moddeling, but i think that it, right now looks a little to much like a flattened cylinder.

But thats just one detail. The averall feeling is nice!

#40

Thank you

As for the round thing on the belt, I’m not quite sure on what to do with that. Its part of the design of the belt and wanted to add it. I’ll see if I can come up with a better solution.
