Game Art Comp 8: Gustav Graves - 007 - Die Another Day

Well, as it turns out, my concept work that I had made for Magneto didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. I set it aside for a day or two, and then thought about the best bond villain. There’s a great deal to choose from. I would rank Gustav from Die Another Day relatively high. Not the best villain, but one with alot of depth to his character.

Needless to say, I won’t be foing Magneto. I was going to post in the old thread to have someone close it, but it’ll drift of eventually. Didn’t want to needlessley bump it.

very nice character. Are you planning to build a high detail version along side the low poly and use normal maps?

If I have the free time to do the high poly (most likely only on the power suit) I’d like too, but if worse comes to worse, I’ll just do bump maps on those areas.

Ahh nice.

Just to let you know, I don’t think bump maps are allowed. According to the rules :

Maximum texture size is 1024x1024. You can use 3 maps - Diffuse, Alpha Transparency, and Specular/Normal Map.

I could be wrong though? can anyone clear this up. Im sure you could just substitute the Normal/Spec for a bump if anything.

There’s a utility to convert bump maps to Normal maps if it comes down to that. But really, I’d see no reason to dissallow bump maps, if you’re going to allow Normal Maps, because NMs are just BMs with 2 extra channels…

Had to mostly cannibalize one of my ~2-2500 models to cut out alot of the time spent just getting the base up.

Initial head model. Just getting enough geometry down. Not trying for the right spots yet. Had to get some screenshots from the dvd to work from.

You can see the difference between the two now that I’ve started to line things up.

Looks great, the only thing I would change is flatten out his jawline more. In the reference picture he has a very angular jawline.
