I will most likely not finish in time. I’m stuck in the texturing stage, but I’ll post what I’ve got come Saturday. This is the most ambitious project I’ve undertaken so far, and I want something to show for it.

That said, I’m one lurker who thoroughly enjoyed watching everyone’s progress. I was bummed to see entries lose momentum, but it happens. In fact, school work is the reason I’m up at this ungodly hour to reply.

P.S. I wholly support your endeavor, bentllama. And that Native American character is definitely one worth revisiting.

One thing that I did realize is that there has not been many front page plug for the contest.

I really wanted to finish this on time but its not gonna happen I think. I think it was the long deadline that threw me off. Oh well, I’m not trying to make excuses or anything, I just fukiin
procrastinated. Ill still finish my character through.

before we start on the next competition, please give me some time to try an organize an official challenge, with official rules and shorter, stricter deadlines…and, with official prizes.

it is something I have wanted to do for this community for awhile, and I will be researching its implementation…

That will be great, bentllama. But if the sole motivation of the competition is the prize, that will be very sad.

I’ll be interested to join the next challenge, especially with guys like KWAK taking part. Hopefully I can finish my WIP character (which is taking too long) soon enough.

bentllama I think that would be an excellent idea, I’ll be looking forward to the next comp

PDK the prize is never the soul purpose behind making a peace for a contest, it’s just a nice insentive to get going and keep going, so I think bentllama has a great idea.

I know, which is exactly the point I wanted to bring through. The purpose should be to improve & push ourselves through friendly competition . The competition shouldn’t need an offical prize to attact people. An official prize will of course be a cool incentive.

Anyway I have a suggestion for the next competition. Other then the regular stuff that the contestant need to show in the 1st post, make it part of the requirement to have a work schedule (which of course could be revised).

Possibly the theme should be left more open ended.
Seems like they narrow stuff down and then people say “oh well he’s doing dracula already…” and then they just waste too much time in the concept phase trying to come up with something that’s not being done.
That’s cool to be uber original, but that’s also very tough. I remember the cartoon characte one being very popular. Possibly due to the fact that you’re just copying something that already exists, and that lets you start quicker.

I always like the first couple of challenges, which had very specific final qualities. Like the alien pirate, it had to be an alien and pirate and from there on you could take it in any direction you wanted. Prize or none it is always fun to start something new, even if you don’t finish you could always come back to it.

The actual challenges are too big for my liking. There are so many entries it’s hard to get a look or keep up with everything.

I agree dmonk there does seem to be so many entries that just start and then nothing comes of them. I seen some people saying they couldnt find their threads, is that some system where if you dont update your thread after a certain deadline your entry gets deleted?

Maybe something like that could be implemented? Like a survivour type thing! :slight_smile:

I guess that is just the display options (wich can be found at the bottom of the page) Default it only shows threads from the last month, but you can change that to whatever you like :slight_smile:

I really feel ashamed to not have finished my entry on time. This competitions are what brought me to cgtalk in the first place. It just seems like the work for this got lost between my actual job and other stuff.
I think it worked better when the deadline was way shorter. It just had a better momentum, I dont know. Maybe the two month time-span(or was it three) was too much incentive to let the project just linger and gather dust. I was always thinking that I still had enough time to finish the entry, and after a long period of not working on it it just kinda faded away.

Im curious to see what Bentllama has got cooked up for us. The prizes are welcome, but more then that, the stricter rules and time limit may just be the way to go. I’ll do my best to participate in the next challenge and actually complete the darn thing.

Anyway congrats to the two (!) guys that actually finished the comp.

And oh, this maybe old, but is anyone here on xbox live? I just got into it and I need some friends to play with :smiley:
