Title: Historical vs Fiction /like/ Jack the Ripper vs CAPCOM’S finest!
about: should please everyone ;)
For this competition we're going to make fighting game characters, that's right! huge tri count on this one. We're going all out on industry standard tech. But enough of that, I'll get to tech spec later. The base of this competition is rooted in the over flamboyantly designed Historical fighting game character, or in modern Ideological fiction. This competition is not so much as ' make the most original theme' as it is ' express in the most original way' and at the same time this should give your hard working imagination a rest. It should exercise your brains fundamentally designing strategy, so don't expect it to be too easy. In short, you need to focus on characters that already exist, spanning from a sick Jack the Ripper to some capcom game character, but you must design it in YOUR way not just some faniac copy. Also your version of the character must look playable, so as if you actually seen it in a game, that character would be your choice.
To simplify, make either a stylized historical character, or a purly fictional modern character reworked and redesigned.
GUIDELINES:
Modeling
We will be using a very generous max [edit] 15000 tries, with a note that 3d Fighter games speaking of characters are out of its nature the focus of the polies, and more must be spent on your character then anything else, and that should be plenty for one game character. I want to see creativity in the use of this share of tries. I don't want to see hundreds of tries wasted on nearly flat surfaces. Focus the tries on detail areas and in areas with heavy curvature. I want to see some nice faces ;) here, if you cannot use 15k tries feel free not to, keep in mind that these challenges should first and foremost be a learning experience.
Textures
As I promised use modern standard tech, use what you like Diffuse, Alpha Transparency, Specula, Bump, and of course Normal Maps, but with a bit of warning, use normal mapping at your own risk, this is cool tech, but it it's not magic. I will allow three maps, first ones max can be from 1024 that's good for body, because of the high poly counts a 512 for the head, and another 512 for optional weapons etc as well.
SUBMISSIONS:
A thread must be started in the appropriate forum, so that feedback and progress can be posted. As in the previous contest, multiple submissions will not be allowed, only one submission per contestant.
Your work in progress (WIP) thread should be named as follows:
GAC 11: (Character of your choice, a bit about)
Examples:
GAC 11: Lord Sauron, Lord of the Rings
Make sure you post in your WIP-thread regularly, so you can get feedback as you progress. Half the fun of the contest is seeing the progression, but don't forget to submit your entry when the time comes.
Within your first post, please show some sort of concept or reference. Share more detail about the design that you are going for, also post some writing on the character, this should be easy to find on the net.
Submissions must be your work !
DEADLINE
The contest begins with the posting of this thread, and ends February 28, almost 3 months. Somewhere in the middle of that time, I will post a "Game Art Challenge #11 Submissions" only post entries here, until the deadline. This challenge should and will be demanding, but it is no killer, you have plenty of time to do that collective thing. Also I don't think you should put off starting or finishing, plz for your own good, get it done! If you can do that before the dead line MORE POWER TO YA! Just think if you want to change something, rework a time consuming aspect, or just create/tweak the beauty render endlessly to perfection, you'll have the time.
THE SUBMISSION THREAD
After I have created the submission thread, you may begin submitting your entries until the deadline is reached.
SUBMISSION SHOULD INCLUDE

You will find more great illustrations just like that one here: [http://digitalninja.mk5.org/DNmain.htm](http://digitalninja.mk5.org/DNmain.htm) The artist's name is Robbie Reilly.
