Game Art Challenge #10 : the Scorpion

Hey there all; this is my first model, and I am excited… havign just finnished all the tutorials I have finaly begun to understand how to shape the Idea I have for what I want. I have started this out as a BOX with mesh smooth Iterations of 1, I hope that they dont bite me in the ass later down the road. So far it is allowing for my Concept to flesh out, I do fear that in the end I will go over limit , but who cares, lol, most of this is for fun and comment anyhow.

I see this thing being a mix of Mad MAx and Anemi, I liek nice lines, really nice lines, I dont go in for alot of chunk, so this will be a Hybred of ellegence and Function. I call it the Scorpion as the basic shape is much like the tail, In the end it will have Engines, and wheels I think perhaps treads instead. It will be a glider , I know it will be more Sci-Fi than post Apoc till it get’s final render and skin’s, I hope to give it the abused look that is what will keep it in genera. As well the " KIT BASH" aproch I will take will make it look as if it has parts from other vehicles, I am still working on the weapon, this may be the POST APOC seller as I love chain adn rail gun’s/

My Idea pool will be from the RIFT’s art, and world ideas, as well a bit from warhammer. These are the places I want it to fit in. If I feel that it is moving away from that I will pull out, but I will finnish anyway.

I hope to get alot of feed back and tip’s from you all.

I wouldnt use the mesh smooth , I would just use smoothing groups. I think it would be good practice to try and do it without mesh smooth.

Hey I apreciate the input, I was thinking to restart it and basicaly try to recreate what I have, I think that your idea makes more sense for what I am trying to create anyhow,
Here is another look at it a bit farther down the line…

I am not sure how to check but I am sure that I will esily go over limit, not completly understandign all that I have to work with I continue along, I will do what I can to limit teh polly’s later on, And well I am sure that others will win, so I guess I am in it for the fun now, he he.

hey nice design so far looks very high poly tho …unless ur doing normal mapping.

anyways … that design doesnt look all too “apocalptic” i wudnt know much about apocalyptic stuff but im pretty sure that they arent suposed to have jet engines and stuff like that.

I know what you mean, I have buggerd it up a bit to try and bring it into genera, but I feel that I am going to have to try another approche. The polly count is up there as well , but that is because I have a “lattice” over top, I think that it is a wash for this contest, I am not going to give up on it though I will jsut shelf it for now, I think I am going to try and create the same thing but more motorcycle like, I am not good on polly conservation, so I fear that I am only goign to get to express this and that, lol//

Ok so I read your post about Normals… Now I have to figure out how to use them, lol…

BTW how do you get a polly count???

Ok so I have started to fool around with other ideas, still trying to get the bug’s out of this thing, I feel I may hav eto drop out, lol. Oh well 2 months is alot of time, I think I can get it worked out, I am really beginning to understand how much Mesh smooth is a waste of plooy’s, I am learning to budget more each run, thank god, as I see that it the true goal , to turn out the same poroducts with less polly’s…
here is a bike I am workign on as well for fun…

Sweet design, a tad high tech though. I am not sure how many smooth CAD made jets will be around in a psot apocalyptic world. But cool never the less.
