Game Art Challenge #10: Catapult - Catapult

Hi all !! Here is my concept!! This is a Catapult powered by solar energy.
I will add details later while modeling i guess, like where amo’s are stored and stuff, my sketching skillz are simply crap so far.
I’m only trying to figure out where i go with this :slight_smile:
I’m waiting for your c&c.

Mixing new and old is pretty cool. The catapult itself would not need solar energy to work, but I’m guessing your idea is that you will be able to drive the catapult, right?
To put the catapult on the carframe, (No chassi) of, for example an old vw beetle (engine in the back), or some other small car would be a good idea. I think the effect of a massive catapult on a small vehicle would be sweet.

It would be pretty cool if you made some sort of robotic arm to pick up stones and other ‘throwable’ items to put in the catapult. That way you would never run out of ammo as long as there were stuff lying around.

Nice concept, and environment friendly.

hey zem! thanx for your comments, the mechanical arm is really a good idea. I will work on it asap!! the car idea is interresting too but inspire me less than the mechanical arm :smiley: so i’ll give it a try later on. Btw thats exactly the kind of comments that help me to improve my work, really constructive!! thanx again !

I like the catapult idea. Its something that would be able to funtion even after an EMP, of course that is something to take in acount for all vehicles. Is that if WWIII were to happen today, tomarrow, next week. no vehicles newer than oh say 10 or 15 ago would not run because all of the EMP’s would have knocked out the electronic starters.

Yo, worked a little bit more on the vehicle mod today. Still need to do the mechanical arm. I’m thinking about the pilot which should be wearing some kind of biohazard suit, need to do some sketchs to see how it will look.

Looking good so far. How about some sort of aiming device, like a telescope or a sextant or something? I really like the general shape of the vehicle.

I don’t know that much about gamemodels, but my 3D-teacher always told me to keep the polygons in quads and tri’s. That is, four verticies and three vertices making up one poly. The sides on your wheels seems to be just one poly with 10 verticies. I don’t know how a gameengine would react to that, maby someone with more experience could enlighten us. Perhaps there is no problem at all with this, I don’t really know. Keep up the good work!

zem: Once again i like your idea, i will be thinking about an aiming device!!! And you’r right about quad and tris but it is only important if u are usin any kind of smoothing system (like meshmooth in 3dsmax). As far as we don’t use that kind of system here i dont think it will cause trouble at all :wink: Correct me if i’m wrong :smiley:

Hey L.John!

Looking good so far. Have you started thinking what the driver will look like? It would be cool if you kept the concept, ancient and new and dressed him up in like an old soilder helmet and breast plate from the middle ages and some new army gear and boots. Just a thought though.
