Game Art Challenge #10: Armored Train - Plasma cannon

#1

Got enough of the design to decide this is what I want to do. Fine tuning it now, will probably have the concept up today or tomorrow.

#2

alright, heres a rough layout of my concept

#3

Very interesting,

I’m looking forward seeing the finished product

#4

Heres what I got done tonight

I kinda like the retro look (it looks like the blue mallard, or whatever it was called) and the whole idea of a train mounted cannon is excellent, but i was expecting something a lot more low tech, cobble together and old fashioned - if youve seen laputa: castle in the sky youll know what i mean.
I love that avatar! The more i see it, the thirstier i get…

I know what youre saying, great movie too. However, I find the Fallout route ( where everything has the style of when the bombs went off(40’s) but the technology still progressed) personaly more appealing.

Was gonna just work on this for a few hours today, but I just about finished it. Im just under 4200 tris. Still need to finish some little things here and there, but its not going to change too much. C&C welcome.

Whole Train
Nuclear Power Generator
Plasma Fusion Reactor
MCF Plasma Cannon Mk III
Wires(56k beware)

ruddy ell! youve got 2 months left!
Ah well - at least youre gonna join the elite few that will actually finish!

#9

youve got 2 months left!
lol. Well, it will probably take me most of that to get a nice texture. Like I mentioned before, I only was going to work on this for a few hours because I needed to work on school projects, of which I have neglected because I was caught up with this silly thing:sad:. I think I have found my passion.

#10

I really dig it so far, you could easily add a little driver in the train. I also like the fallout-inspired design.

You’ve got lots of time to make a cool texture (and perhaps bump/spec/normalmap) for this piece, I think you could do great!

Optimized the hell out this thing today. I decided to have some of the crew on the train for a few reasons. The main reason is because the pilot wont be seen enough to even model the head. Also having the crew on the different cars will help show that the train is active, and will help with proportions. Depending on how many more tirs I end up needing for the smaller stuff, I just might be able to get a third guy.

Looks great! nice work.

Heres what the crew will look like (100% lumination). Still have a few more things to do, like the helmet, collar of the coat, and the rear face of the glove. Feel free to comment on anything else. I still have a few polys I can use to add to the crew. Of which Ill put into the collar and the shoulder straps. And if I have any left over from that, I just might give them some guns.

Crewman Textured

#14

jeez i guess I just wanna finish mine to not let this guy down… Andy H takes it to heart who finishes and who doesnt lol… plus I wanna be elite! :buttrock:

On a funny note: While typing this I was thinking in saving poly so hard that I started trying to type low poly… saving letters! lol im going nuts!

Exellent concept and cool crewguy!
The textures are lookin ok so far

#15

forgot to add the texture sheet

#16

I’d hate to see this entry not making the deadline, where’s the updates?
I hope you’ve begun working on the textures, this will kick ass if properly textured!

#17

=) dont worry sysop. I fully intend on getting this done. Ill try and get an update this week. I have been busy with school, as usual, but I havent forgotten about it.

#18

This is the direction that I decided to go with. My original color scheme just didnt work. Also reworked the uvs to better solve the problem of fitting everything and still having detail where it was needed. As always C&C are welcome.

100% illum

this update is dedicated to sysop

#19

The texture look too “washed out”. Maybe a sharper brush & a greater constrast in the colors can improve the look.

#20

I hate to break it to everyone, but I accidentally saved over a file and have to do a lot of what I already did again…sigh Ill still try and get it done, but its not looking good…
