Game Art Challange #10 : Truck - Music

I was bored in English today so I began to doodle and thought of an idea for the challenge, here it is. Tell me what ya think. Here I go…

(Its 3:08am, bear with my grammar and spelling errors)

Martians came to earth and destroyed it, just cause they could and they wanted to show off. After earth had been leveled, the martians scoured the land to find the few remaining survivors. While searching the small town of Oak Park, California, the martians discovered a group of friends listening to their favorite music that they salvaged from their destroyed homes. They martians wanted to vaporize them, but they couldn’t help but DANCE! Having no music on their homeworld, the sounds that emmitted from the boombox’s and amp’s overtook the martians minds and they just had to boogie. Upon seeing that the martians were breaking it down instead of vaporizing them, all the friends got into a truck and ran them over. THERE WAS HOPE YET! With a few modifications to the truck (namely huge speakers in the back, and a spiked shield in the front) the friends headed off, roaming the lands while blasting rock and running over martians. After years of finding survivors and building more MPDT’s (Music Playing Death Trucks) humankind now has a chance to TAKE EARTH BACK. One, dancing, martian, at a time.

While in class I realized that the whole silly music idea (even though I love it) Is in some ways very similar to the movie Mars Attacks (Really bad country music was played, and the aliens heads blew up) soooo I dunno I may not do that now considering many peeps may think it un-original, what do you think? Two other ideas I had was that the martians could be in awe from fireworks that shot out of the back of the truck, or even candy, cause lord knows I’d probably get hit by a truck if I saw candy in the middle of the road.

Heres what I got done with tonight. I know the mesh on the truck is messy, i’ll be fixing that up, still need to add more horns for music everywhere and the shield in front of the truck, still not sure as to how I want it done.

Let me know what I can fix. 3:30am here, g’night everyone.

** EDIT ** Forgot to mention, at this point im at just about 1000 triangles.

Was pooped after work today so didn’t do much tonight, Expect much more tomorow though… Just fixed the wheels a bit and made the amps in the back a little more uniform. Not sure if I just want to just texture tinted windows, or add an inside w/ a driver and all, what would you guys like to see? :smiley:

Re-thinking what type of “shield” I want in front of the truck also, I want something a little more original then just a shield w/ spikes. Ok night all.

Rawr. I’ve decided to ditch the idea of having a front shield, I’d rather have music as my main weapon! So I’ve added a ginormous megafone on the top of the truck, and just started to add little details to the mesh like headlights and bumpers and stuff. . .

Im at 1800 tris right now.

Expect more tonight, for now… I’ve got a softball game to get to! Byebye.

We won 15 - 8 ! Anyways, more work. not much tonight I had some school work to tend to. At about 2400 triangles.

. . . I get the feeling I’m talking to an empty room . . .

You know, you could put Hank Williams on, and explode some martian brains! HAHAHA It very much reminds me of Mars Attacks. That was on the other day too. LOL

Nice mesh so far. The oversized megaphone on top is pretty funky. This will be fun to look at textured. (Let’s see some decals and band stickers, yeah?)

On an edit post: Why map out the licsence and stuff on the front if you’re gonna have a spike grill? Also, I think you should do away with the fireworks and candy. The music is funny.

haha ya It’s a lot like mars attacks, RIGHT after I thought of the whole idea and drew the sketches I realized too, im such a nerd. Oh well. :banghead: These martians are dancing, not exploding :smiley:

I was thinking I might lose the grill and simply just have the front of the truck… But now I’m thinking I won’t, cant decide hehe. And ya the others were just for fun as I was sketching, not gonna go w/ the fireworks and candy.

Oh I meant its funky kewl. You know what this thing reminds me of? Did you guys ever play that really old game with Cory Feldman, when he voiced that loser rocker guy? It was like a puzzle myst kinda game but humorous (term used loosely) and real disproportionatly cartoonish. It was a neat little game back in the day…I’d say bout a decade ago.

Keep going Rocks. I wanna see some paint. :wink:

I’ve played video games my whole life and I definitly don’t ever remember playing a game w/ Cory Feldman as the main character, hehehehe. Thanks for positive feedback Wayne.

ummm I’m thinking that this may be it practically, I may add more detail to the flag but its going to torn apart anyways when I texture it. I have about 2000 extra tris, so I may add an inside to the truck but for some reason It doesnt look good when I do, I almost would prefer tinted windows. . . I dunno about the front shield either . . .

But yah, this is nearing the end of the mesh. Unless I get some serious crits in the next few hours, which I would love.

Hmmmm it’s been a bit. It’s been school > cg the past few days. But I finally had a little time to work tonight. Added detail to the flag and added a front cage to the truck. At just over 4000 tris which I’m going to tone down. Next step is to work on the UVs. Bye.

Need to work on some seams but for the most part, everything is mapped out.

First pass at the textured truck, decided to go the extreme off road dirt route.
I know they suck, it’s my first time laying out UV’s and texturing, hehe.

100% self illuminated maps.
1024x1024 consists of the truck and the tires.
512x512 consists of everything else.

Got any ideas as to what I can put on the flag? Not sure what I want to do. Bring on the crits.

About the texturing. I’m not liking the green too much, when I think post apocalyptic I dont think green grass. I think it’d look better if it was muddy and/or rusted. You could also texture the door seams.

haha ya that doodle was a bit goofy…

And about the green, It’s actually meant to be martian blood from running them over, while I made it I was wondering if people would actually make that connection. . Guessing I was right. Not sure if I want to keep it now. I’m guessing that I could get by w/o it considering this is mostly a humour piece and the blood was a little violent anyways.

And the door seems, YES! I completly forgot. I still need to do door handles seems etc etc thx I completly forgot heheh. And BTW anyone have tips on how to make my windows more interesting / better. . . I can’t seem to get it.
