GRRRRR

I spent about 20 minutes typing out some meaningful nonesense and giving info, but as soon as i posted it, it said the server was busy and wiped my message - Baaaahsssstaaaaarrrrd!

Anyway - here it is - minus the jibba jabba i spent so long typing out…

#23

gah - i cant resist. I just love talking nonesense.
Here we go again… forgive poor spelling and grammar…

Ive spent most of today on it, and im gettin more pleased with the anatomy in places like the arms and legs. Some areas need a lot of work, but at least theres enough there to keep me convinced that this is gonna work. Ive started on the head but im not sure wether to make it muscly and deformed, or relatively realistic and a good resemblance like its heading towards at the mo.
I think im gonna go with the marie curie rider idea because seeing her fused with him would be a bit too grisly for a capcom beat em up and it would look much cooler having a huge (lobotomised, perhaps) lumbering beast with a classy victorian lady in a black coat sitting on his shoulder! Im hoping to get a gruesome-yet-cute type thing going, such as in the darkstalkers games. Not sure about the details. I like the rider idea, but it seems somewhat cruel and kinky  I want to kind of make it as if she is his sidekick, but is the one with the brains and sense of reason. Almost as if, even after the accident, they are still lifelong partners and fight together!
As for the style and clothes? Im thinking ripped victorian clothes / lab coat for pierre and a classy black long coat with a hat for marie. not sure on pierres skin colour or condition yet. Having him green will be too corny and hulk ish, whereas making him scabby and rotting will look too nasty!
Now ive got the base anatomy 70% done, i can focus on the design of the other bits and start building marie. Im not sure wether to build her in a sitting pose and limit her movement, or have her as a totally seporate character who can move around freely (i like this idea!). having her seporate will mean she can swing around him or move about to hit people, talk to pierre, mount him etc… This will make my life a lot harder though because ill have to make 2 bipeds and deal with the fiddly techy stuff of linking 2 characters etc…
Well, at least ive got the hardest bit out the way - starting it!
Sorry bout all my mindless blathering, it should compensate for a lack of a significant update, and hopefully answer most of the questions you all have!

Finally, just how much emphasis is it made on being CAPCOM, anyway? ive seen very few entries that really encapsulate the capcom look - they seem more realistic and gritty, like theyd be in mortal kombat or something. Even Tekkens characters are slightly stylised and flamboyant…

#24

Nice Update! What kind of close will he have?

#25

Defininetly an improvement already, especially on the muscle defenition.

As for linking two bipeds together… If you are using character studio, you can simply link “Bip02” (Marie) to “Bip01” (Pierre). That way you can animate the root of the skeleton for Bip01 around and Bip02 will follow. But this way you can animate the root of Bip02 without moving around Bip01… I hope this makes sense :D.

#26

I couldnt resist another bash on it before hitting the hay!

Im not too happy with his clavical and neck area - its something to work on later. Ive also gotta be careful with the head - if i make him muscly and tough, hes gonna look exactly like zangief!
I made a start on Marie. Still very WIP at the mo. Ill try and do something to make her costume a little more intresting and dynamic compared to the reference images ive compiled below:

Jeez - when you look at the photos of them taken at nobel peace prize shoots, looking all dignified and intelligent, then you look at my model, it almost seems kinda derogatory and offensive! Eeek!
Hope none of the family are following this post…

Thanks for the advice Serul - I kinda guessed that would work, but my character studio techy know-how is still pretty lame, so i had my dbouts. That long skirt of marie’s is gonna be a fecking pain if shes gonna be moving around and sitting places…

#27

This will turn out sooo damn good… just cant wait to see them textures. Even more knowing Andy’s level of work… Makes me wanna get to work on mine right away (god bless them vacations)

#28

I really like the progress there!

Since this is a fanciful notion of a fighting game character I’d reccomend matching the exaggeration of the body of Pierre to the head as well (it seems sorta normal). Also with Marie I think she could use a lot of exaggeration/stylization as well rather than sticking to what’s in the photos.

I really like where you’re going with this Andy, keep it up!

No comment. Like always KICKASS. Only one thing. I’ll make a bigger head. Take a look http://www.goption.com/archives/Mini-Hulk.jpg . I think this one shiyld help You also in muscle anatomical part of him.
Take care man.

LoL Por@szek,I took a picture with that Hulk lol.Newayz, good loops.I really like the way its turning out.I agree that the neck/collar bone area could use some retouching.NJ!

#31

looking real sweet so far! can’t wait to see it textured up!!

your jibba jabba made me giggle! hehe!

#32

Caution? I thought you were ninja noodle? Unless youve nicked her avatar…

#33

damn it… ninja noodle is still here to haunt me!!! :eek: she’s the imposter!! not me!!! >_<;;

nah it’s still me, just wanted to change name cos my handle on other forums is caution.

happy belated new year by the way!

looks good

Im kinda stuck at the moment.
The incorporation of marie into the design is giving me a headache. I think im gonna have her prone and modeled in a sitting position, otherwise her long, flowing dress will be a nightmare to rig and just wont look good if she has complete freedom of movement. Ive decided that, but i cant bloody decide on what to do with the rest of it!
I need a break from it, to gather ideas and reference on what science was like in the 1890s, as well as to come up with a concrete design, rather than make it up as i go along.

Ive started a new (completely unrelated) model in the 3d Wip forum. Just an idea i had recently and i just wanted to get stuck in. Take a look!
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=199670
Its the first (personal) model ive made in high-poly for over a year!

By the way - for all those who asked, the animated GIFs on my first page were from

I Love it, you’ve incouraged me quit a bit in some of my work i thought i’d open my mouth and venture an opinion.

my thought on the setup (from a 2d fighter POV) is that Marie stands in the background slightly, Long gaunt and not very animated. think maleficent physique from Sleeping Beauty.

in the foreground is the mutated deformed Pierre, this way you wouldn’t need to put as much time and effort into her and make life easier, plus her giving commands as he attacks would be nice and easy to animate if needed plus her witch like look would be most menacing.

I love the meshes so far, are you still adding steam pipes and such to pierre? can’t wait to see this it might look nice if you got rig of pierres neck and bled his head into his body, if u get me, also if you maybe moved his shoulder forward to make him look slack and heavy…just my take on your great idea.

Looking forward to more updates…

Thanks
Col

P.S. try these out http://www.shinmugen.net/gallery.php
some great stuff here that may help in what you’re after

#37

Here’s a couple more big, weird-looking, mutant guys from a fighting game…

Astaroth

Necrid

#38

Hehe, I like the bunny. I could see that being worked into a historical Marilyn Monroe fighter char.

#39

That’s the thing, she’s such an obvious person to do. I wonder why no one chose her.

Andy H - Don’t know if you’ve restarted, etc, but the biceps looks odd as a tad big. Generally, the bis make up 1/3 of the arm, with the triceps making up the other 2/3rds. I agree with Ohmi about the head looking rather normal when compared to the body.

Really interested to see what concept you come up with.

cheers.

Okay…

After finishing my bunny girl (see avatar) i thought id try and get this feller finished - i hate having unfinished projects - the way i see it is everything can be salvaged and made decent with a bit of work.
Still totally unsure about the design, even after doing research into victorian science and other things like horse apparel, so im messing around with stand-in objects.
The objects on this are just mockups, so forgive the crapness. Same goes for marie’s posing too - i just stuck her there to see what she would look like sitting on his shoulder.
The thing round his neck is a heavy duty horse collar (marie can hang on to it) and the pipes are some kind of victorian style steam vent thingy. I was gonna fuse more machinery to him, but it doesnt really serve much of a purpose, and is a nightmare to design.
